Would switching to a wired connection increase my stream quality?
I am streaming movies on my Sony BDP-S3200 Blu-Ray player from my iMac (it's a rather old iMac though). The problem is that the video quality is noticeably better when I play them off a USB stick than when I stream them over the network. I confirmed this by viewing the Sony display while watching a movie. On the USB stick it ranged from 8-15MPS for the video, whereas streaming it ranged from 1-6MPS. The audio bitrate was also lower on the stream (although I don't notice this). But the source file was the same, a 1080p 11GB mkv with English subtitles.
I have my streaming settings set as follows:
Local Quality: 20 Mbps 1080p
Remote Quality 20Mbps 1080p
Channel Quality 20 Mbps 1080p
I also have Direct Play and Direct Stream options checked.
My iMac is connected to the router via ethernet, while the Blu-Ray player is connected via wifi – is that the problem? Would the problem go away if I were to connect the Blu-Ray player via ethernet? Or is there some other, more primary limitation?
