I am trying to get a server pc running at my parents home in order to use it as a library and be accessed by me and my friends, since they got more rooms in which to keep the loud old war machine. I would mostly stream 720/1080p movies, so bandwidth shouldn’t be a problem since we use 500Mbs internet (download and upload) and my tv has wired connection.
Before I do that, I started some inital testing using my personal pc as the server and connecting my TV on a remote connection using my phone as hotspot to simulate a worst case scenario. The problem is that in this conditions the streaming quality is utter garbage. I tried changing in app settings to use original quality but during stream it automatically detects 25.5Mbps and seems the setting did nothing. When I try automatic conversion I just get an infinite loading screen. I also tried using one of my friends’s PS5 who uses a 5Ghz wi-fi connection 1000Mbs, which I consider to be more than enough, but the result is the same.
I dont have this problem using wired/wi-fi same network though.
My question is: How do i overcome this? I wouldn’t mind waiting 30s-1m and get a good quality instead of 5s and a bad one.
I’ve been banging my head over this for the past 3 days with no avail and can’t find anything related to this problem. I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong but can’t figure it out.
If the stream is indirect / using a Plex relay, there’s probably some issue with your remote access setup.
Did you already have a look at the related troubleshooting support article?
Hi! Thanks for the quick response.
Yes. You are correct, remote access was not working for me and i was using “relay”. I thought this wasn’t going to be a problem since I thought that this is only so I can access server settings from anywhere and the error wasn’t saying anything about Double-NAT.
I have finally managed to make it work properly. It seems that the problem was Double-NAT. My ISP was using CGNAT so I had to make a request to deactivate it.
All is working fine now. Thanks a lot!!!
