What formats does LiveTV/DVR support? is it just TS and M3U or does it support m3u8 as well?
There is no support at all for m3u.
You will need additional, 3rd-party software to turn your m3u into a “tuner device” which Plex can use.

I have used xTeVe and now running TellyTV. just wondering as my virtual tuner using TellyTV offers up transcoding options or original quality but I’m not sure what native output is from TellyTV. It kinda reads that it just passes the stream URL through to Plex but if that’s the case then it must mean that Plex is handling the streaming, which it seems it isnt supposed to.
I’m not sure what you are getting at.
I mean that TellyTV says that it simply hands the url to Plex to retrieve the stream but that would mean plex is handling the m3u surely? I thought Plex could only deal with TS streams?
Plex doesn’t support streams at all.
Xteve is taking the m3u (and the stream) and behaves towards plex as if it was a genuine tv tuner device.
I’m sure i had read somewhere that plex was going to start supporting m3u’s but i have no idea where. I may just have been dreaming it lol
You will need xTeve; for streaming there’s the default option to do “No Buffer”, this in turn will just have xTeve take the stream and feed it to Plex.
However, you will want to enable a buffer. Doing so will allow HLS/M3U8/RTP/RTPS support; you will need VLC or ffmpeg installed on your system to act as the buffer. A buffer also allows one to max out the connections that their IPTV service provides.
If the buffer is disabled, only the streaming URL is passed to the client. xTeVe is then no longer involved.
The above might or might not mean that Plex handles the stream, but even if it does [it’s basic at best], it is very limited since as mentioned you NEED to enable a stream buffer for that m3u8 support.

thats my understanding of it. I believe that my streams are all M3U rather than M3U8 so shouldnt be a problem with no buffer in TellyTV. I think i may be getting confused as i have never seen the transcoding options like in my screenshots when using my physical HDHomeRun tuners, only when using TellyTV which is emulating an HDHomeRun tuner
