I can’t say exactly when but Plex stopped launching on my Vizio M65-C1 (within the last month or two). It continues to work perfectly on all other devices on my home network, some devices being 10 years older than the Vizio. When I launch the Plex app, the screen displays a spinning white circle on a black screen. All other apps work, including Netflix. I’m using the latest Plex server on the latest Win10 OS on a really great home computer I built. Without going into all that exhaustive detail, I’m convinced that the Plex player software on the Vizio has become incompatible with the M65-C1. I’ve reset the Vizio to factory settings and reloaded Plex, with no change in result. I get about 40MB/s wifi connection, so doing a direct connection won’t probably change anything. I would just like to know if my TV is no longer compatible, or if Plex will make a change and it will soon become compatible, or if I need to maybe use a compatible stick. I appreciate the Vizio is 5 years old but it’s hard to take that my very excellent 4K Smart TV with still the latest wi-fi hardware is no longer compatible with one of the most popular home network streaming applications. Thanks for any factual information.
Having the same problem. Has anyone figured this out yet…?
My best guess is this TV (all Vizio of this year and before) used a more simple OS for their apps. Subsequent year models use a Smartcast OS. Plex likely does not keep its code compatible for the older Vizio OS. I think this has happened with other brands of TV. The only solution is an external streaming device. I needed to update from my original Apple TV unit, so I now have a 4K unit and can run Plex through that.
I had to manually add the ip address of my plex server to the plex app in a brand new vizio v655-h9 in order for it to see my server. Good thing it’s on my local network. I am not sure how that would work on an external network if you have dynamic ip setup from your isp.
