M4221i-B1 Plex App Does not work

Server Version#:Linux Version 1.24.3.5033
Player Version#:1.01

When I start the Plex app on my Vizio TV (FW Version 2.1.18) it gives the Plex splash screen then I get a network failed error from the TV and the TVs network settings menu pops up. Other Smart Apps work like Amazon Prime and Netflix.

I contacted Vizio and they ran through factory reset, and verifying the latest FW is installed… They say everything is good on their end and to contact Plex. I have Secured Connection set to Preferred and Enable local network discovery (GDM) unchecked.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

If the player version you listed is the version of the Plex app, it looks like you have one of the TV models that is no longer supported. If that is the case it might be worth trying to use unsecured connections instead as the TV may not have updated security certificates. If your sever is on the same network, it would also be worth having GDM enabled. If you still can’t get it to work, then then you could get an inexpensive Roku or Fire TV device (for example).

If on the other hand you do have a supported SmartCast TV, then the TV model would be useful as a start.

First the TV model is in topic heading, M4221i-B1. According to Vizio this TV is still supported. I did a packet capture but need to know the how the app communicates with the Plex server. I do not see any packets going locally.

Sorry, I guess I’m blind :man_facepalming:

It looks like you’re TV is no longer supported by Plex. We only support SmartCast models, and it looks like yours is VIA.

OK I missed that… Yes this TV is VIA based. Fire Stick it is…
