Mac desktop app showing weird characters

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943-a91458577
Player Version#: 1.27.2.1599-7689068b
macOS 11.1
MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
When I hover over movie titles, the pop-up box shows a bunch of weird characters instead of the actual title. I’ve uninstalled the app and installed it again and that didn’t help. I am using a separate MacBook Pro that has an external hard drive attached as my media server. Any ideas what would be causing this?

Hi mike.mcdonald320_gmail.com,
Taking my first guess, you probably experience the same problem he(/she) did.

I looked in Activity Monitor and don’t see anything called jdownloader. Do you know where does that process run?

Here is how it looks on my MacBook Pro mid-2010, macOS 10.13.8, Player 1.24.0.1483-714cba36

Sorry for my response being that late.
Little further down that thread he said he experienced the same issue again with JDownloader closed (as you do too, not having it installed), but firmware was the issue. Since when is this happening? Did it start apperaring after such an update?

I’m not exactly sure when it started because I most often use Plex via the Roku app. However, I checked my work computer this morning and am not experiencing the issue there.
Plex 1.26.0.1531-92029e9e, macOS 10.14.6

Is there a way to rollback my MacBook Air to 1.26.0.1531-92029e9e?

I have this issue as well. I also have an M1 Mac, so I think that’s the issue for some reason. Maybe this will be resolved when the Plex app is updated to run natively on M1.

At this point, that’s my hope as well.

My server has updated to 1.21.3.4021 and the player app on my M1 MacBook Air is displaying the titles correctly again when I first open the app. However, as soon as I scroll down or go to a different screen the issue happens again until I quit the app and open it back up.

The player on my 2010 MBP has been updated to 1.27.2.1599-7689068b (same as MBA) and everything still displays correctly no matter what I do.

Further confirmation that it seems to be an M1 issue.

Entering Bugtopia now, that’s what the Plexdevs might want to look into. M1 seems to be a growing market now anyway…

Perhaps a separate version for M1. My fear is that mucking around with the player for M1 compatibility, will break all the “old” Macs.
