I’ve just updated my Mac mini from an intel to an m2 pro!
I used to use plex way back in the day when it was really quite simply plug and play. Been using kodi these last few years but apple silicone has shown a few issues with kodi
So I’ve come back to plex. And wtf has gone on? So complicated.
How do you play files from the Mac mini own hard drive or external! Or does it have to stream it from the media centre? Something that should be so simple seems to be soooo hard
I was hoping the new m2 pro hdmi 2.1 port would open some doors for me that was available on an intel Mac mini. Such as dolby digital plus atmos or even dolby true hd and dolby vision
I have to normally use a nvidia shield to play these files.
Plex isn’t a video player to open/run local media files. It’s always been a server/client combo. Although there’s nothing blocking you from running both on the same machine.
I’m not 100% sure about all the specific codecs/formats in your OP, but usually the Plex HTPC app should do the trick. If the Mac doesn’t have native support for some of the audio formats but the TV or a connected receiver are capable of playing it, you should be able to configure the app to pass the audio through.
Well my Mac mini is supposed to support dolby digital plus and atmos. But I’m not seeing much support of it because I can’t find an app to test with. Kodi plays direct files.
So what do I need? I’ve got the plex app. The home cinema one! And the media centre!
There is just way to much information on the forums that don’t really apple to my set up!
