Make strict sample rate matching smarter with sweet fades?

I have a Mac and an external USB DAC. I have strict sample rate matching enabled, in addition to sweet fades. I understand the technical challenges (impossibility?) of fading across different sample rates. I get that. What I’m hoping for is more intelligent sweet fades. The problem I experience is that often the last several seconds of a track get chopped off with sweet fades turned on and when there’s a sample rate change coming in the next track.

What I’d love to see is smarter sweet fades that only fade between tracks of the same sample rate, and when there’s a mismatch in sample rate to not fade and play the current track in it’s entirety.

The current algorithm can be quite jarring when a few seconds of a track get cut off. I think intelligently NOT fading when there’s a sample change would make the experience seamless.

Hmm, so you’re suggesting basically falling back to gapless for those cases? I agree that might be better than the current behavior, although it would leave people potentially wondering why there was no fade.

I personally think strict sample matching is sort of silly, but that’s sort of besides the point…you could leave it on Smart and not run into these issues.

Precisely! If strict sampling is enabled, then fall back to gapless when there’s a sampling transition.
