I have a lifetime Plex Pass. Per the Plex help documents, I created two in home sub managed accounts so I could limit content and prevent people in the house from deleting media.
Commercial skip and casting initially worked in the sub accounts but the casting to a Sonos speaker was blocked last year for the sub Managed Accounts but still works for the main account. Commercial Skip is now blocked the same way.
The sub accounts were created through the Admin Plex Home interface and not separate Plex accounts with a login where I shared media content to another user, they are for me just to restrict content and features in home. The DVR still works for the sub account but I am concerned that is the next feature that will be blocked. I don’t think that I could buy another Plex Pass for these sub accounts.
Is the issue temporary or have these features been taken away from Plex Pass users?
How can I limit content and features in home and still get the Casting to Sonos, Skip Commercials and DVR without allowing everyone to use the Admin profile?
I tried writing to Plex Billing using the site form but it does not work (a processing icon just spins after clicking the submit button). I don’t see how to purchase additional Plex Passes on my account if that is what’s needed for these features. Is there another way to contact Plex?
I’m also having this issue. I thought it was a problem with the app that I was using, but realized that my managed users could not see the “skip commercials” button on any app. I originally got a Live TV tuner to DVR content for another member of my household, but now they can’t skip ads on their managed account.
Mine is still not working. If I use the Admin profile the skip ad button shows up and works but not with managed users on any device I tried (Fire TV, Phone, Fire Stick, web browser, Vizio TV app, etc).
I use mine the same way, have an admin account with full privlidges protected by a pin and managed user accounts to keep people from deleting things or making changes. I use one managed account to restrict content. It’s all within the same household so I would think yhat my Plex Pass features also apply to managed sub accounts as the Plex documentation says to set it up this way.
I contacted Plex through an outside agency since their site contact form does not work but they never responded.
So many things I like about Plex but miss this feature a lot.
Good idea. Plexamp does not have managed accounts from what I can see but I tried casting on my phone to Sonos speakers using Plexamp just now and it worked after I figured out that you have to reset the volume slider on the cast connection each time you connect or you get no sound as it defaults to zero. Casting from Plex using a PC still does not show the Sonos speakers on managed Home accounts but Sonos does show on the Admin (non managed account).
Please include the device you are using because it may work in some Plex software and not others I have noticed.
I should have included that my speakers are Sonos One model with software up to date.
I switched to using another player for my music instead of Plex when casting stopped working. Sonos management swore that casting never worked with Plex (ya, right). Sonos then blocked the other app casting and entered into some deal with Plex as a partner but you had to use the Sonos software and have a Plex Pass for the main account. I stopped buying Sonos products after that.
Server Version#: 1.41.8.9834
Player Version#: 1.109.0.329-ea562b95 (Plex for Windows), 2025.20.0 Plex for Android
Last working version for managed accounts was 1.41.7.9823
Sonos requires a Plex Pass subscription and is not extended to managed accounts. If you would like a to buy another Plex Pass you can create a hybrid managed account but that is beyond the scope of this thread.
Everyone should be posting if you want to get anywhere.

Same issue too. I’m wondering if this is a bug or a new restriction to limit the functionality of Plex Pass. Can’t find any other information about this.
One poster stated that the casting was an intentional removal of a Plex Pass feature. It has been gone for a while and I miss it. Sigh.
I hope that they did not take away another Plex Pass feature for the commercial skip on Managed Home profiles but it seems to be going the way of casting removal where it is gone from all different software versions so it looks to be intentional and not a bug.
If they removed the casting or commercial skip features for Managed Accounts I hope they communicate it officially at some point. I do see the commercial skip and some casting devices but only for my main profile and not the Managed Accounts.

I am also affected by this. It’s hard for me to believe my family members using Managed Accounts are not afforded the same Plex Pass features I am, especially “Skip Ads”. I hope an official Plex employee can provide some clarity on this soon. My patience is wearing thin. All I’m asking for is clear communication.
Skip Commercial for Managed Accounts is working again for me after I restarted PMS as posted at the other thread or bug report that veeejay started so I marked that as the solution. Yes!
