Managed User, can't locate server..... :o\

I just purchased Plex Pass. I did this so that I could have Plex Home and create a managed user to switch to, to keep the grandbabies from hitting on something “blue”. I chose “My Home”, created the user, switched to it and now I’m stuck at “can’t locate a server”. Really? I already installed Plex. Where else would I install it? Roku won’t just run off the server it finds when I’m the selected user?

I guess it’s because I’m worn out and can’t see for crap today, but I’m just sitting here blankly staring. Would someone talk me off the ledge and explain (gently and slowly) what I did wrong? Again, the idea is not to invite an existing Plex User with his or her own account, but to create an account within the home.

Thanks for any help.

Had the very same thing, and it made me very angry and frustrated yesterday when it happened to me -

Follow the link, and also try restarting PMS - i’ve since not used plex home as I’m way to scared I’ll get locked out again like I did last night…

I’m not happy its happened to you, but it means I didn’t do anything wrong as you got the very same results as I did. And yes, I too went REALLY?? It doesn’t feel nice when you pay for a service and you follow the onscreen guide and it then locks you out of your own media…

Best of luck - hope you fix it.

I think our situations are a bit different, but I expect it’s only a matter of time before I hit the same snag.

When I switch back from the Managed User to myself, Roku finds the server again, and everything is back to normal. But the minute I switch back to the managed user, it sits and spins, looking for the server again. :o\

Anyone from this home (my actual domicile) would be using the same Plex server. I just can’t understand why Roku can’t find it unless I’m the user, if I set up the managed user in my own settings. banging head on the keyboard

Thanks, iv-tecman!

When you create the managed user, you need to go to the restriction tab and tell it what that user has access to. If you don’t, then they have 0 access, so they don’t see a secret since they are not allowed to. See if that fixes things.

Ah… we might be getting somewhere. All I’ve done is set restrictions, but, as I only downloaded the PMS last night, I’ve not yet added libraries. I’m cutting the cord, so that has been my focus. Which brings me to a question that caused me to hesitate on the whole library thing. Are my libraries private or can anyone ultimately access them? I staunchly refused to go on the cloud and handed over my long-time Mac email address in protest. I suspect I’m a bit naive concerning all things streaming. :-S

Perhaps I’ll test this with a “mini library” of sorts. Thanks, MovieFan.Plex!

You’re a rock star, MovieFan.Plex! Thanks much!

I too am trying to remove TV services from the home, but I’m as yet able to get the home settings to work. I thought the issue you had was the same as me, but for me I as the home user manager couldn’t even access my own server from the server itself… So seems your issue wasn’t anywhere near as severe as the one I had… glad its working for you.

Thanks, iv-tecman! I sure hope you get it sorted.

IV-tecman. I suggest you follow the guide on cuttingcords.com.
A lot of work has been put into it and I can tell you I have several servers online because of the guides.
They work. Also. As a cord cutter, you will want to check out how to make and review channels. They will save you a lot of time building your collection

@iv-tecman I’ll provide some suggestions in your thread later.

@ThisBlowsChunks no one can access your server without your account info or if you share then their account info, but you can revoke at anytime. Also, no one knows what you are watching. Even if you enable remote access, plex does not know. If you use a client via wifi, there is network traffic that can be sniffed out of the air. But if you are connected securely (a green dot next to your server name) that traffic is encrypted so even that info is secure.

Thanks, MovieFan.Plex, that’s reassuring! Good to know.
