Managed users get an error indicating the local Plex server can’t be found. I log in with the admin account and the local server is found. Then log back in with one of the managed users, and problem solved. This happens every time the Roku app is restarted.
This only occurs on the Roku clients. The Android clients haven’t had the same issue.
Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364
Player Version#: Version 7 , build 19
There’s a setting in the preferences section of the Plex app for Roku to “Automatically Sign In.” If you have disabled that, I think that the admin has to log in to verify access to the server. I believe by default it is turned off.
I noticed I also need “Allowed Insecure Connections” enabled for my admin account to connect to my local media server. This is set to “On Same Network”. The managed accounts are now set the same for “Allowed Insecure Connections”. Still doesn’t work.
Casting or “Remote Control” using a managed account from one of my Android tablets to my Roku works. If that provides any more insight.
Also noticed my previous work around of logging into the admin account no longer fixes the issue for the managed accounts. My admin account finds the local media server. The managed accounts no longer can find the local media server even after the admin logs in.
Switched the “Allowed Insecure Connections” from “On Same Network” to “Always”. Seems to be working now. This is in addition to the earlier suggestion of using “Automatically Sign In.”
Not sure why this fixed it. My media server has a static IP. I know it’s on the same network as the Roku.
On the Roku Plex App go to Setting → Advanced → Allow Insecure Connections → Set it to “Always” THEN back to …MORE and attempt to connect to the server again. Fixed the issue for me.
