Managed User Share Playlist

I am trying to set up Plex so that I can share photos with our family.

My challenge now is that I manage to create playlists (Photo Albums) that I can share with other Plex users, but other users on my home (or even that I give access to my server) such as my wife or kids can’t seem to either share playlists (Photo Albums) themselves, nor add photos to those shared playlists/photo albums.

Am I missing something in the settings? It seems only the admin can share playlists (Photo Albums)?

Only the server owner can share anything, and only the user that created a playlist can edit the playlist. Each user can make their own playlists from the media you share with them, but only for their own use.

Thank you.

I suppose, then, that this is not the workflow for photo sharing then. I’ll have to share my user with my wife for this purpose, which isn’t ideal for all the other media consumption, but it is what it is.

Best.

EDIT: Never mind, re-reading your post says you tried everything below

You can share individual items (which includes playlists) with a user. Instructions can be found here

It’s not as convenient as automatically having a playlist shared with your users, but it seems to work. In the app the person you are sharing with might have to hit the “More” link to see the shared items after you have shared them. They can then “pin” that section to the apps home page for easier access from that point forward.

I have my playlists automatically shared across all users using Webtools. It has been a while since I set it up but I don’t recall it being too tricky.

Thanks both.

I’m not sure I’m completely following your reply @Mandosm so let me try to clarify:

  1. I am able to have my playlists shared across all web users on my server, if I’m the admin.
  2. If I’m a managed user, I cannot seem to share playlists that I create with others.

Are you saying that you can accomplish 1., or are you saying that you solved 2. using Webtools? I’d be keen on learning the latter, though I can understand that the way I explained it is confusing and may lead to being interpreted as having challenges with the former.

Thank you both, and have a great weekend.

I have achieved both 1 and 2 using Webtools. I am really sorry I cannot remember how I did it but on my server if any of the users creates a playlist is automatically shares it with all other users on the server.

I just googled ‘Share Playlists Plex’ and found this on another thread

  1. Install the WebTools Plex Plugin (For Windows, install “Windows_Inst_WebTools_1.0.exe ”)
  2. In Plex, click on Plugins (bottom left) and select WebTools and navigate to the internal URL given and login with your regular Plex admin login info
  3. In WebTools, click on Playlist tab and you can copy your playlist or any of your friend’s playlist to each other (as seen below)

So I did that and then found a script that runs in the background to automate the sharing. But I cannot locate where that script has been put, If I find it I will post it but pretty sure I just found it on a google search.

I’m disappointed that managed users can’t share their playlist. I’m the server owner but even I used a managed account as my everyday login to listen to my music. I only used the admin account when managing my libraries and making changes. Isn’t that a known rule in computer system land? Never use an account that has full admin access as your daily account?
