Managed users on PMS & DSM7 shared content missing

Server Version#: most current as of Sept 2021
Player Version#: most current as of Sept 2021
Operating System: DSM7

Context
I am trying to create a managed user to share certain libraries with but not others

What I’ve tried
-Relaunching PMS
-Deleting the preferences file (don’t worry I backed it up) and relaunching PMS
-clearing cache on the browser
-logging in/out
-unsharing then resharing the libraries

Nothing seems to work, sometimes the app will ask me what sources I want to use for the manage user’s home page but after that nothing appears and the server is shown as being offline despite being accessible to the main user. I am aware that you have to click “more” in to assign pinned sources and this is where the server is shown as offline in the app. On desktop there is simply no “more” button.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have already set up the recommendations. Today when I logged into the Guest account and clicked “more” it shows the server, but then after a short period of loading it says “Not Authorized you do not have access to this server” despite my libraries being shown as shared with the Guest user.

This sounds like a fun little exercise that may pay off. I’m gonna have to try this after a trip I’m taking, but thanks for the lead.

Out of curiosity, how is it possible to sign into your server incorrectly, but still have access to your media inside and outside of your network?

Also, will I lose all of my customizations, settings, metadata after doing this? It doesn’t seem like that would be the case, but definitely want to be clear on that before I proceed.

Worked like a charm! Thanks for laying it out like a boss.

Just wanted to say thank you!

This solution also worked for my case:

  • Moved server install from Mac to Synology NAS DSM7 using instructions here: Migrating Plex from Mac to your Synology NAS
(and using the latest PMS package directly downloaded from here)
  • Moved all media to NAS
  • Everything worked beautifully for the primary user/admin of the server.
  • But no other users could see the server at all! Not even logged in directly to the server on the NAS from inside the local network.

The above reinstall was painless and worked without a glitch.
