Managed users can't see Plex server

Server Version#: 1.20.3.3437
Player Version#:

Hey all,

So I recently switched to an Asus tor AS5304T as my Plex server. I have updated PMS to the most current version. My problem is that under my username/admin profile I can play everything and see my server without issue. But any managed users and friends I have my libraries shared with see the server as offline. I’ve confirmed that my server is accessable remotely, that every managed user and friends have had the appropriate libraries shared with them, and that everything is up to date. Again my admin/main account can see the server no matter what network I’m on and can play movies without issue. Managed users, even on the same network as the NAS, and friends see the server as offline. I’ve searched the threads and have seen similar threads but none were ever answered or it was something simple like they never shared the libraries. Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You mention you switched to a new server.
Have you verified you granted those users access to the libraries on the new server?
If you have… can you check if the libraries from the new server might show up under the More section of the main navigation on their clients?

Are you that what your users see as offline, is actually the new server?
Check the content under the “MORE” item in the side bar.

When you switch servers, your users may have to reset their respective client(s) and select a new default server for themselves:

Hey Tom, so I’ve verified that all the appropriate libraries are shared. I removed the old server and cleared out my friends shared libraries, then re-shared the new libraries under the new NAS server. Going under the “more” section shows the server but says it’s offline. The same thing is true for my managed users. I deleted my kid’s managed user profile, and recreated a new one ensuring that the new libraries were shared. Same thing for their profile. It shows my server offline to them. I can access the server only through the admin (my) profile.

Is this only happening within your home network or also with remote connections?
Do you experience the same behavior after rebooting the server and force-restarting the client apps?

Hey Tom, it happens on both local and remote. I can always see my server as online when I’m on my admin profile no matter what network I’m connected to. I’ve restarted the server and still the same.

So I figured it out. I had to move the preference file to backup. It works now.

What does this mean? I’m having this exact same problem but have no idea what you’re saying to do here.

Thank you. I have 2 Plex Servers (on a Mac & on a Linux machine). I could not display the libraries on the Mac with the Managed users, but no problem with the Admin. Just like you. I took a copy and deleted the preference file on the Mac, and restarted Plex on that machine. Plex recreated a new preference file and the accesses were granted to the managed users. Well done because I searched in all the parameters without ever finding an appropriate one.
