Managed Users unable to access shares

Server Version#: 1.25.4.5426
Player Version#: All

I have two managed users set up on my plex (son & wife) and neither of them have anything showing up for the server. I’ve granted them both access to two out of three of my libraries but nothing is shown in their accounts. In mine I can see everything. Can anyone help get their accounts working again?

Can you check if the shared libraries show under More in the main navigation / sidebar?
Even if you have applies a restriction profile or manual restriction that would cause all movies to be hidden from them, they should still see an empty library…

Thanks for responding

There is no ‘more’ displayed in the sidebar. In fact there’s nothing

I’ve also tried resetting their display preferences

Did they accepted the invitation request ? (mail)

There was no email request as they’re just managed users under my account

Weird, same stuff happen if you try from other device (smartphone / TV box) ?

Yes, unfortunately it happens on all devices we have - web / iOS/ LG TV App / Apple TV app

This looks rather weird.

For my understanding:

  • you can properly see your server/libraries if you’re using the admin/main user of your Plex home?
  • after switching to one of the managed users, their screen is completely empty (as per your screenshot)
  • did you disable the online media sources offered by Plex for those managed users or should those be showing on their home screen?
  • can the managed users access Settings > Plex Web > Debug?
If so… can you click on reset customizations (red button) and check if that makes a difference? → resetting customizations only applies to their web experience and won’t impact your server or your own account; I’m not sure this will make a difference given you’ve been experiencing the same on multiple clients.

Thanks Tom

  • Yes I can see and use the admin account as expected
  • Correct. The Admin account all media is there, switching to a managed account and everything disappears.
  • I did disable the online media but re-enabling it displays the same
  • They can access it but resetting seems to have no effect.

I’ve also tried re-creating their accounts (deleting then re-creating) and unfortunately has the same result

Creating a new managed user with an unused name before also ends with the same as the screenshot above.

Would you mind sharing your server logs?

Hopefully this will shed some light on the issue

This might be a silly question… did you attempt to switch to one of those managed users since Saturday 5am? I seem to fail finding any records in your logs pointing to another user being active only our server (except for yourself).

I’m pretty sure I had. I’ve just turned debugging on in two accounts, toggled between them and re-done the logs.

Also noticed in the console, when changing to the managed user it says ‘Authenticating as Guest’. Not sure if this has anything to do with it

Any Ideas?

no feedback yet.

I’ve just tried adding in my ip/subnet into the ‘List of IP address and networks that are allowed without auth’ setting on my server and the ‘More’ option has shown up for the managed users. This allows them to select the server and see what has recently been added but nothing else. They can’t play anything either. They can’t pin the server so that it would show up by default. This is the same result if accessing via the direct IP address of the server or going through plex.tv url

Thanks for your help. I got fed up and decided to reinstall the server. It’s working now

interesting twist; glad it’s now working for you
