Managed Users unable to see HDHomeRun Tuner as a source

Considered adding to Server, but I believe this is specific to Live TV, being the location of the HDHomeRun DVR tuner. FYI my server is installed on Synology NAS, DSM 7, Version 1.30.0.6406.

I cannot find anything that discusses the use of my Live TV Tuner (HDHomeRun Quatro) by Managed Users, including the Plex instructions, Live TV & DVR (Set Up and Manage).

Surely my family can view my HDHomeRun Live TV?

NB Using my main account, the Source device (name I have given to my HDHomeRunTuner) is available from Live TV (two sources, tuner and Plex Channels). My Managed users only have Plex Channels with no option to add the tuner.

I think this page has what you’re looking for:

Thank you for your reply. I didn’t explicitly state that I have allowed Live TV to the Managed Users. They can currently see Live TV and the Plex Channels source, however, they cannot see the HDHomeRun Tuner (name) as a source.

To re-iterate, they can only see Plex Channels from Live TV :frowning:

Someone else will have to step in, then. I don’t use Live TV, that’s just what I could find. Good luck.

Thank you. Appreciate the effort doing some investigation on my behalf

Does anybody know if I can expect someone from Plex to answer on this forum?

The use case seems obvious and so I am at a loss as to why I can’t easily find an answer. It makes me think my setup is somehow wrong.

You didn’t mention what client, for example:
Created a test manage user with restriction profile none.
Next screen, selected DVR for TV + Movies.
Next screen, Allowed downloads and Live TV & DVR set to “Allow Live TV and DVR access”
Click ADD

For Plex for Windows I can switch user without problem but on Google TV I had to force stop the app to pick up the added Managed User.

On the guide you will now see:

Plex for Windows and browser have the 2 sources which allow you to easily turn off Plex Channels.

Downside is once enabled on the server you have to visit the client to finish setup.

Edit: Name of my Plex server is DVR, yours will be different and hopefully not a long name.

HI, this is interesting … you have introduced a new concept (to me) of creating a Test Manager user. I am only aware of a Managed User. I will have to look at this!
.<<< updated …just reread and I think you missed the d off managed  >>>
Also, you have also said “Allow Live TV and DVR access” … I don’t recall it saying ‘…and DVR access’
Not totally sure what you mean by the client, as I changed the access permission on the server (synology). I have observed the behaviour from my MS Windows (PC) ie web, and also using a Firestick.
I don’t think I have the option to change permissions from these clients, or to create users (warning, I am a novice!).

Sorry, I am rebuilding a volume on my Synology NAS and hopefully getting trays for the SSDs tomorrow …at the moment, it is dead :frowning:

Thank you, your steps sent me in the right direction.
I must also apologies to @beckfield, as the article should have made me think about things more clearly.

The problem I had was that I was only considering the server setup without any appreciation of the individual account setup. I had trawled the internet looking for answers before raising this question here. This led me to enabling Live TV for Managed users, but also led me to believe I had done everything necessary.
(in my defence, it seems silly enabling access in the server, and then editing every existing account to reconfirm that they have access)
Anyway, as mentioned, @pl_5309 made me reconsider what I had done and what I needed to do. I have edited each account to enable Live TV and DVR.
Owner account>Server>Settings>Plex Home>edit User>Restrictions (tab)
