Mangaing Musical Genres in large library

Hi there

I have an extensive digital music library that I used to manage in iTunes until I migrated it to Plex. Love the work the Plex does, but my habit when considering something to play in a large library is to dig down from a genre depending on my mood.

I went through the laborious task of updating the artist data in Plex to affiliate it to the genre of my preference only later to find they had all reverted back to the Plex server choices. This was not pleasing! There are far too many random or overly specific genres associated to artists to make the genre listings workable e.g. ‘Adult alternative rock’?!! or ‘Honky Tonk & Outlaw’, ‘Jam Bands’ etc etc

How do I change the genres to stay as I would like them without the next music scan changing them all again?

I have a Plex Pass, not sure if that is a help or hindrance with this issue…

Many thanks
Kristian

in reference with what Bart_Gunn is asking… could it be possible to sort just tracks by genre of the track… not the artist or album?

When editing tags and other properties in Plex, make sure the Lock icon is orange when you save. The orange lock will prevent your info from being overwritten during a metadata update, which Plex does routinely, unless you tell it not to.

Unfortunately, no, but it has been a popular request. There is a feature request for more thorough support for embedded tags, including genre, that includes the ability to do what you ask. Please add your vote if you agree.

I can see the discussion from the link, but I cannot see any voting buttons? Or do you mean just add general support with a comment?
