Hi team, on the latest android tv beta, as of yesterday, and noticed I cannot manually customize the home screen. I only add libraries. I have tried reset customization, then choosing server, and some libraries. After that I cannot choose what I want on the home screen but only libraries to pin. Before I was able to add if I wanted new tv episodes or rediscover. Now it just defaults to newly added tv or newly added movies without the option of removing or changing the home screen.
You should have seen pop-up notices on all your Plex devices in recent weeks announcing that this was going to happen. It sucks, but we don’t seem to have much choice.
You customise this now on the server, by:
- Go to Settings > Manage > Libraries
- Hover over a library
- Click Manage Recommendations
This has the advantage that it applies to all users on your server, rather than you needing to do it per user, and I believe there are actually more customisation options than with the old manually managed home screen.
Interesting… that partially answered a question I just asked in another thread.
My followup question would be… if you don’t share a particular library with a particular user, these global recommendation settings do not put items that the user shouldn’t see into those hubs, do they?
No, it says in the Manage Recommendations section:
Sources need to be pinned to the apps sidebar for selected recommendations to display on the Home screen
They won’t be able to pin a library to their sidebar if they don’t have access to it, so they won’t see those recommendations.
I have not seen the pop up. So on my android device starting the plex app, something would have popped up? Because I use plex app almoet everyday and haven’t seen this at all.
I should amend what I said. I believe it would only pop up if your device was currently in manual configuration mode.
I see. That makes sense. I was testing out the combined currently watching/on deck feature and going back to manual configuration only to not see it available. Is it possible to have manual configuration back again for client side apps?
Manual configuration is being removed from all apps.
