Manage Home Screen Automatic & Manual

I’ve had to turn off the automatic management of the Home Screen because sections that I want continually disappear. I’ve asked my less-tech literate family members if they’ve had the problem… and because they don’t know about the three dots menu, they thought I had removed that row.

I understand you are trying to push your ad-supported content but server admins really should have more control over how our server content is displayed across the board. Two many times these new user level customization options added over the last couple of years has lead to this type of confusion. There has to be some recognition that the people sharing Plex libraries are way less technically capable than the serve admin users. These are often kids and grandparents. The server admin shouldn’t have to babysit every STB/device their family uses.

Regarding the manual management option of the Home Screen. Has anyone looked in there recently? It’s a mess. For each library section there is a “Recently Added” for Movies, TV, Videos, Photos, and Games. Why would someone want to show the Recently Added Games from the Movie library? Or the Recently Added TV of my Music library?

I have four library sections. Managing the Home Screen manually should be simple. Instead I have 20 Recently Added I have to sort or remove instead of 4. There are no games or TV or music or home videos in my Movies library or anyone else’s. Please fix this.

Just a quick example of the Automatic Management not working. Turned it on this morning, everything that should be there was there except one of my Recently Added TV rows. Watched a couple of bits of content across multiple library sections and went for a walk. Came back (without me editing it and no one else was home) and everything except Continue Watching and On Deck has disappeared.

There are several threads about this or this topic comes up in other threads.
I haven"t seen a thread yet praising Plex on this multiple Recently Added row idea.
I’m with you. If Plex allowed server owners to control these settings it wouldn’t be so bad.
According to @DaveBinM there are future improvements that will make these current changes make sense. I don’t know how many months we have to suffer through this before we see the changes though.

Hilariously in the web/app if you turn off Automatic management you get the unified Recently Added TV row AND it fixes the fan art issue discussed here: Continue Watching TV thumbnails broken again in PlexWeb

That only works on the web/app.

Today has been a nightmare for this issue for me. My Recently Added row for my main TV section is now lost no matter if I choose Automatic or Manual and no matter what app I use. (Except the unified row in the web/app I mentioned above, main TV library content is in that row).

The Android TV app is the worst I’ve seen. The Roku app is usuable in Manual mode.

I am experiencing the same issue exactly as DavisNL. The plex experience has become a complete nightmare for my users who constantly reach out to me for support on getting things back to being usable and intuitive again - which I can’t because the Apple TV plex library UI has become the opposite.

Plex, how do you not see how unintuitive this is for users? Do you guys have QA? Are they any good? I can recommend a few of mine!

This experience has forced me to recommend all my users as well as my group of data hoarders to negatively rank the app in the Apple TV App Store, Roku, and any others where the UI is so negatively affected. My hope is maybe they’ll take a minute, listen to that feedback, and fix what I hope is a bug and not a terribly implemented UI “feature”
