Manually start/stop recordings

Maybe an easy question??

I had a recording scheduled for a long morning show. Goes for some hours. I only wanted the first hour to be recorded but couldn’t work out how to “stop” the recording vs “cancel” the recording.

I clicked “cancel” and the recording stopped but the partial copy never appeared.

On a related note, is it possible to manually start and stop recording of a channel without needing to enter all the info? So for example there is an item on the news I want to record so I’ll start it going and stop it after the item finishes. Can’t work out how to do this either.

Edit: I’ve just realised that the show I cancelled this morning did appear but as I have 2 directories for TV shows, was in the wrong one. Still would like an answer to my second question though if possible.

As for your 2nd question:
No, you currently cannot do that but there’s a related feature suggestion you could vote for

Allow the search to provide a match a user can select for recording regardless of that programs pressence in the EPG. Use case: New series to premier in the fall but it’s still the spring. Since I saw the trailer today I want to create a schedule for when it airs. Then I don’t have to keep tracking the news to find the premier date and create a calendar event to create the schedule. I set up a schedule to dvr only the first 30 minutes of the Today show. Since it runs two hours I set the “Minutes After End” in the Advanced Settings to -90. That seems to work for me (except for on Saturday when the show is only 60 min).
