(I’ve seen a couple of old topics asking for somewhat similar things but they were closed without response years ago so here’s my request…)
I’ve been using Google Photos but have now filled my storage on there, and I don’t want to use cloud services when I have a Plex server and Plex Pass anyway!
But the main feature I will miss from Google Photos is the map view in the search page of the Google Photos Android app. I use this view frequently - to answer questions like “When was I last at this gallery? What did I eat years ago at this restaurant? Who was it I came to this park with once?” I just open up the map view, zoom into the location I’m thinking about, and all the photos I’ve ever taken there appear below the map on my screen, arranged by date. It’s brilliant!
I know my Plex server has all this geo data from my photos indexed, because when I look at the info on a geotagged photo, it tells me there are another dozen photos at that location, or whatever. So all I’m asking for is a map view the same as Google Photos offers, using that already-indexed geodata to populate the map with either heatmapping like Google Photos does, or just some sort of pins if heatmapping is not doable. Or it could even show nothing actually on the map at all, and just show the photos below it based on what area of the map is visible on screen at any time (as Google Photos does along with its heatmapping).
It’s honestly the most useful presentation of photo geodata I’ve ever come across and I’d love to see this in Plex. Anyone else? Thanks!
