Hey guys, I’m trying to add the Marvel TV-shows but they keep merging with each other. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D season 01 is for example together with Luke Cage season 01 and so on. I can’t manually fix the match and don’t know what to do. Any help?
99 time out of 100 (or even more often) what you are seeing is the result of improper naming or structure of your shows.

TV Shows <— The library points here
---------TV Show Name (Year first aired if needed) <— This folder holds the season folders
------------------Season 01 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 01
-------------------------ShowName - s01e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s01e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 01
------------------Season 02 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 02
-------------------------ShowName - s02e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s02e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 02
------------------Season 03 <— This folder holds all the episodes for season 03
-------------------------ShowName - s03e01 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------ShowName - s03e02 - Episode Name.ext
-------------------------And so on for the rest of season 03
Note: The year after the show name is only normally needed or desired if there is more that one show with exactly the same name. Check http://thetvdb.com/ if you are not sure and match exactly the name used there.
There are naming methods other than the above that work but this does work 99.9% of the time.
If you are going to use Plex it is best to use the proper naming conventions so Plex makes the best match possible. Trying to force Plex to use other naming methods is just asking for frustration.

For the “TV Show Name” folder use “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” and “Marvel’s Luke Cage”
For the “ShowName” use “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - SxxEyy - Optional Info.ext” and “Marvel’s Luke Cage - SxxEyy - Optional Info.ext”
The periods in the “SHIELD” are optional and will be ignored by Plex.
If you follow that naming and structure exactly you will probably have no further problems.
The only other thing that might need to be fixed is in the agents settings. In there you should make sure that the TVDB is the fist item in the list for TV shows.
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=304219 - Marvel’s Luke Cage at TVDB
I had Luke on for a while - until I watched it, but FileBot named it perfectly in seconds:
A TV Show Library/
…Marvel’s Luke Cage/
…Season 01/
…Marvel’s Luke Cage - S01E01 - Moment of Truth.xxx
and so on
One thing FileBot won’t do is alter embedded metadata inside MP4/M4V files. If you’re using them and there’s bogus names in the title field you’ll need to:
- remove the bogus titles
or - much easier - drop Local Media Assets to the bottom of your Agent lists - drag and drop:

After renaming and restructuring a Plex Dance® is often needed:
- remove show from library
- update library
- clean bundles
- empty trash
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200392106-Library-Actions <— update libraries, clean bundles, empty trash - fix names, structures, Agents, etc
- replace show into library
- update library
ALL steps, in order.
