Matching issue for merged two parter

Hi guys

Been organising my library recently and loving the matching feature - and loving even more the personalisation options allowed. An example is preferring to see the original movie poster rather than one used for a re-release.

Anyway, I do have one conundrum.

I uploaded season 1 of a show. This show had two pilot episodes. On Wikipedia; these pilot episodes are listed as such, and the first regular episode is listed as episode 1 - but the box set lists the first regular episode as episode 3 - taking into account the two pilots (which is how I preferred it) as episodes 1 and 2 respectively.

So, when I matched it with my default agent, it didn’t list the pilot episodes and missed them altogether. Odd.

So I tried with the second agent. This time, this agent recognised the pilots as episodes 1 and 2, and the first regular episode as episode 3. Problem solved!

That was, until I uploaded season 2 to my server.

Now, this second season had a two parter as episodes 1 and 2, except the box set used the feature length version and made it into one episode… which I am cool with (since I don’t have original broadcast footage with the wrap arounds and recap of previous week).

But; the agent that saved me for season 1 now sees the first feature length episode as just the first part of the two-parter, and it sees the second part of the two-parter as what is actually episode 3!

I hope this makes sense.

Out of curiousity, I switched back to the original agent. It caused the issue with season 1 again (expected), but it solved the issue with season 2.

Can I mix and match agents per season?

I know I can set them as personal, and I would have to got through all 80-odd episodes and add the metadata manually. It is an option, but I would prefer using an agent for consistency.

Any suggestions appreciated.

What show is it? Plex uses either thetvdb or themoviedb, not wikipedia.

The Incredible Hulk. Yes, I didn’t mean to imply it did use Wikipedia, I was just saying one agent matches what it on Wikipedia and one doesn’t.

Not quite but close. I’m trying to end up with the below, I can have one or the other depending on the agent.

odd yeah thetvdb and themoviedb are opposite how they treat those episodes and thetvdb does not seem to have their DVD order assigned at all. https://thetvdb.com/series/the-incredible-hulk/seasons/dvd/unassigned/edit I don’t know how to petition them to fix that. the moviedb does not seem to have a dvr order at all

unfortunately I think the only ways to make it into some semblance of what is on dvds is to either

  1. split apart the S02E01 Married file into two with mkvtoolnix or similar
  2. name S02E02 The Antowuk Horror to be S02E03 The Antowuk Horror and just not have an episode 2, with the rest of the season 1 episode number higher

Thanks, glad you see the problem.

Can’t really split the file, since it’s the original feature version. The two parter is different in that it will have closing credits on part 1, and a recap on part 2. Would look messy.

Other suggestion is one I shall try though! Thanks. I realise this isn’t a Plex issue per se but thought I’d ask here.

If anyone searches for a solution to a similar issue, I have discovered another option.

  1. Rename the Married file S02E01 - Married.mkv" to “S02E01-E02 - Married.mkv”
  2. Rename each subsequent episode, eg rename S02E02 - The Antowuk Horror.mkv" to “S02E03 - The Antowuk Horror.mkv” and so on
  3. Unmatch the series.
  4. Match to the best agent (in my case, The Move Database)

This lists the two parter correctly, the only drawback is that clicking either Part 1 or Part 2 results in the same feature length file being played, which is a minor inconvenience (if an inconvenience at all).
