I don’t even bother with Plex’s version of Comskip. I’ve just renamed the current donator version of comskip to “Plex Commercial Skipper”, moved the dictionary and .ini files into the PMS directory, and written a batchscript that does the replacement every time the computer boots. Since that, no comskip related issues
That’s… a pretty genius idea, @WCTschumy! That way if you enable commercial removal on the DVR, you basically get two passes of comskip with the latest version. ![]()
Thank you @Wiidesire @MAScooby and @WCTschumy for the information in this thread. As a new Plex and MCEBuddy user, I have found it invaluable in setting up my media server to function to the best of my needs.
Sorry to be replying on such an old topic, but I am having one issue with these steps. Everything appears to be working as planned, except it does not seem to be carrying over the gracenotes for news programs (I haven’t tried sports yet). Here is how it is currently working…
- Plex records programs from my Antenna in MPEG-2 .ts format.
- I’ve added the post processing script to my DVR settings and that is triggering MCEBuddy to run Comskip and convert to HEVC MKV. I do not have any monitor locations in MCEBuddy, so the .bat file appears to be working.
- The converted file shows up in my TV Shows library once MCEBuddy is finished. I also have an archived copy saved to a different destination.
So while everything seems to be working as planned, I do not see any metadata or posters for the news programs (it is only showing up for TV Shows). If it were copying the gracenotes correctly, shouldn’t I see the description details and poster for the news? Any ideas what I could be missing?
I’ve found the metadata piece to be the trickiest part - I’ve had good luck via the path you outlined, but it was hit or miss early on. What happens when you select “refresh metadata”?
Nothing happens when I click “refresh metadata”. There is some program information carrying over for news programs, but not very much. Mainly just the title. Is this normal for this setup? I’ve attached the MCEBuddy log just in case there is some useful info there.
My other concern is regarding all the TV shows don’t seem to have the original air date correct. While the TV shows show a poster and description, when I try and sort my library by ‘air date’, it is wildly inaccurate. Do you have the same issues?
