Hey so a few days ago i noticed that the ps4 app had an update. Since then everything buffers “very small amounts” not even enough time for the … to show up but it’s all the time. When I watch something from a friends server its fine but my own it’s very noticeable and annoying since for months it was working very fine. Then plex changed something and now it’s a pain.
I’ve looked in the settings and i can’t tell what to adjust anymore to see if this can improve.
forgot to mention, i’ve noticed that something called “plex new transcoder” now shows up in the task manager of my computer and it maxs out my cpu. It never did this before…
Also this problem only happens on the ps3/ps4, it works fine on roku or xbox 360.
I’m getting exactly the same thing. Not done much testing yet, but since the update, I’m getting buffering for 1-3secs every 40-50secs regardless of what I’m streaming. It’s VERY annoying. Hope to test plex on few other devices shortly, to see if only PS4, as well as check out DNLA on PS4 to see if happens then. Will update tomorrow when had chance to dig into it a bit.
Interesting, i could help with a few answers here.
It seems like it’s very random with certain shows which makes no sense to me. My friend when he access my plex he has the problem too on only certain tv shows HOWEVER when he watches the same shows on my plex over the computer or roku he has no problems at all…so this is a ps3/4 issue…I don’t think there is anything we can do about this, i’m leaning towards its a plex issue or even a sony issue.
Hi Monoxide Man and iancorns, please try setting the Maximum H.264 Level in the app to 4.1. That get you back to previous behavior?
The PS3 and PS4 default to H.264 Level 4.0 for direct stream and transcode. Previously we required the video to be Level 4.0 for direct play and 4.1 for direct stream. Now we have a single level which is applied to both direct play and direct stream/transcode.
For some reason, didn’t get the notification you’d responded to this (need to check my prefs) and not had time to dig into it despite best intentions (and the problem persisting). Was just about to fire support an email, thought I should check this thread, and here’s an answer! Hopefully works for me as well as monoxide man! Just switched it on, and we’ll see what happens.
This fix did not work for me. still buffering every few seconds and not really capable of watching on my PS3. i can watch just fine of my samsung tv…

sorry to double post… i just forgot to quote you earlier… as stated before this fix did not correct my issue…
Interesting so it didn’t fix it for you huh…When i change my back to 4.0 it goes to massive buffering every few seconds and then when i switch back to 4.1 it’s smooth right away. Very weird…hopefuly some plex guy can figure this one out for you.
