As the files say in so many languages… don’t place any media inside the server’s data directory – also not in a subfolder of the server’s data directory.

The reason you can’t put media there is because once you do, you alter the permissions.

On DSM 7, PMS no longer has any privileges. It can’t fix anything should you make a mistake.

Also, if you point to the wrong folder, you will cause PMS to index itself and it will lock up in an infinite loop

If you were running DSM 6, you are welcome to use the Plex shared folder as you wish or create one of your own.

Please leave PlexMediaServer alone. I made it visible so you can make backups or get logs if PMS ever fails to start.
