Media Scanning - GREATEST CHALLENGE FOR PLEX AS WE KNOW IT

When scanning media library straight from the web application of the Plex Media Server. It all gets done with ease and complete the scanning and updating with one click. When it comes to scanning the Libraries to keep things up-to-date on IOS app, Windows app, ROKU app, Samsung app, it’s a BIG FAIL. The scan last for under a minute and give up unlike Plex Media Server when you update your library and the scan fully update your changes. This is Plex weakest part when it comes to what Plex isn’t doing right. It’s not that it’s an IOS issue, Windows issue, Roku issue, Samsung issue. I have to constantly moving up and down in the library so the libraries get updated. Otherwise there will be no pictures, no new contains showing up.

What can’t we get the same scan as the Plex Media Server?

I’m not understanding what you feel isn’t right / what isn’t working.

What do you mean, with an example (screen capture and/or log files) of " …The scan last for under a minute a…." ?

OK, when I scan the media server itself after I added or removed contains, the scan takes care of things beautifully. When I use either and all my techs such as Ipad, iPhone, Windows laptop and PC Plex app, ROKU Plex app, Samsung Plex app, KIDI Plex app, the scan doesn’t work like it does for Plex Media Server. My posters and latest entries won’t show unless I kept on clicking up and down to keep the scan alive . It would be as if I never try to keep my library up to date. I have to start scan many times and keep moving from top of the library down and up so they stay in contact with the sever.

When you are looking the contents of a Library secion, let us use Movies for example, you see all the contents, all the artwork included as it should be. If you do not have all artwork as you do in Plex/Web (the web browser), please take a screen capture image of both. one showing me where the image exists in your browser and another where it does not exist in your phone / tablet / device.

Also, I need to see the server logs after you do this. Please go to Settings - Server - Help - Download Logs. It will give you a ZIP file. Please attach the ZIP file and images with your next reply.

That’s very odd. When I put a new movie in the correct directory and do a library update on my web client, it’s discovered and meta-data is downloaded. After that, every client I go to shows the updated library. Now, if I have a client already open (like my Shield TV app), I’ll back out of the library and get to the home screen, then move to the movie library and the new media shows up.

That would be nice if mines work like that. It takes a long time for the media info to show up including posters. I have to do a couple scans and I have to move around for example Movies to the information, and posters get added. It won’t just do it.

I’ll do what ChuckPa said when I get home from work. =D>

Please let me know.

Also, as @kegobeer-plex pointed out, your media and images should ‘add automatically’. This is what Plex does best. It only requires the file names to follow a simple standard.

When you are home, Please show a few names which cause you difficulties. We will help you to understand what is easiest & best. Also there are tools to help you with your media names.
