I’m hoping for some advice here. I have access to a remote server owned by another user who has purchased a full Plex Pass. From what I understand from my research, that means that I as a user should have access to remotely view media from their library, which up until today I have been able to do on any device. I recently attempted to watch media on a new Amazon Fire Tablet, and it requires that I purchase a remote pass or Plex Pass before playing more than one minute of the remote media. After testing on multiple Android devices under the same account, I am able to watch the same media remotely with no issues. I never purchased any pass on any device prior to this, and the issue only exists on this one Fire Tablet. Is there any solution to this? Google searches appear to just state that it is a known issue with no solution.
You need to pay an in-app, one-time $5 USD mobile unlock fee. You do not need to purchase a Remote Watch Pass or a Plex Pass (a Plex Pass would also work, but is much more expensive).
Plex is in the process of migrating to the “new experience” apps. They are currently available on Android phones, Apple iPhone/iPads, and on Roku devices. The new apps do not have a one-minute limit on video playback.
The old, legacy mobile apps have a one minute limit on video. The limit applies whether playback is local or remote. The limit is removed by (a) paying the $5 unlock fee or (b) buying a Plex Pass.
The Amazon Fire tablets still use the old Plex Android mobile app. That is why it is asking you to pay the mobile unlock fee.
