Media server no longer finding new media

Server Version#: 1.25.8.5621
Player Version#:

For the last couple of days my plex server isn’t finding any new media - not quite sure why, nothing in particular changed and everything else seems to be working as normal. Any thoughts much appreciated

Same here, my Nvidia PLEX server (version 1.25.7.5604)is no longer updating my media. Additionally, some functions such as fetching subtitles files no longer work.
I have another Nvidia server (version 1.25.3.5448) which is operating fine on the same set of data (data stored on Synology), including subtitle files.
It seems that the problem started with the latest Plex server update.
Any idea?

Glad to know I’m not alone - and yes just to confirm mine is also a Nvdia Sheild Media Server - have also checked subtitles functionality is not working.

Hopefully an update shortly

I have the same problem on my QNAP Plex.
it may be from the last update but just yesterday I notice the problem.
How does this work? We just report here and PLEX people will fix it or what?
I just realised there’s no way to contact PLEX support. Only commercial…

Make sure you guys check the permissions on the newly added media. Odds are either the directory or file have permissions set that are causing issues.

Thanks @dbirch but this is not the issue unfortunately. I have a second shield and Plex pointing at the same assets on my Synology and this is working fine to update the libraries or getting subtitles files and upgrading metadata.

Unfortunately dont think its the file permissions. The scanner operates fine, in that it scans directories, looking carefully as it does shows me it sees the new media, however its currently jist not adding any mew media.

Recieved a server update ( 1.25.8.5663) that i had some small hope might fix the problem, but sadly no joy. Still wont import any new content. Having had such a stable plex server (pre the latest shield update) this year has been thoroughly frustrating and a reminder of the bad old early days of plex.

Can you perform a scan and then upload the logs? In one of the other threads it turns out they had a corrupt database.

Looks like its a corrupt database too: database disk image is malformed

Mar 25, 2022 10:15:05.047 [17825] ERROR - SQLITE3:0x1, 11, statement aborts at 9: [REPLACE INTO 'main'.'fts4_metadata_titles_icu_segdir' VALUES(?,?,?,?,?,?)] database disk image is malformed

Useful to know, whats the best way to deal with that. Any thoughts appreciated.

Im guessing as its a shield server its not as si.ple to address as on a computer…thanks

So have found this article, looks like its the appropriate solution…

https://chisel.malik-wright.uk/blog/tech/2020-11-28-plex-database-repair/

Well unfortunately my attempt at following the instructions resulted in a completely destroyed database. Have had to start the server from scratch.

Having had an absolotely flawless last year with plex (virtually no crashes or restarts) and thinking to myself theyve finally got it right, am so dissapointed that this year of plex is so much like the early days of plex…so buggy, constant restarts and so much downtime…didnt mind so much in the early days but this is now a commercial endeavour and frustrated that a paid experience has been so bad of late. I know most of the issues started with the shield experience update and the utter craziness of ut not being properly tested with plex…but since then its been one annoyance after another.

Unfortunately dont really know of an alternative thats suitable for me, but deeply dissapointed.

Anyway, apologise for the rant…it is still a great server product when working, so am hoping the start of the year has just been a hiccup not to be repeated.

Plex’s guide to database repair is Repair a Corrupted Database | Plex Support However I would always recommend creating a backup first. You can also try to use your oldest backup plex has and restoring that and see if it is no corrupt.

Thanks @dbirch for your inputs. I had been thinking of replacing the com.plexapp.plugins.library.db file by an older version. Unfortunately it does seem that my Plex server is not backing up the file however it was requested in the Scheduled Tasks. My back-up was meant to happen on my Synology server (which contains the media assets and is therefore regularly accessed by my shield Plex media server) but for whatever reason it is not executed. The idea was to have a back-up on a different disk to avoid crashes but apparently Plex defeated the idea by not executing it. The back-up address is : /storage/SYNOLOGY/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/DatabasesOffice
This DatabasesOffice folder was never created by Plex. Checked the rights but everything seems fine… puzzling. I will cancel this back-up sequence to reinstate the back-up on the shield USB drive.
As to using the SQL Lite version, not sure how to do this on Shield. Can this be done on a Plex server running on Mac or must it be done on the Plex Server of the shield itself?

This is getting worse. I have a second shield server which I have been using as a back-up and I have spent a few hours upgrading some of the metadata. Initially the Plex server accepted upgrading the libraries but a couple of hours ago, it started to demonstrate the same corruption behaviour. With tons of messages “database disk image is malformed”. Apparently the recent updates on the Plex servers are causing the database to be corrupted! This is messy and makes Plex from now on totally unreliable. Any library curating work would be wiped out by a faulty Plex Media Server! Action seems needed at Plex side now to cure this…
