Media-Server Remote Access - "Not available outside of your network"

i have gone through it all unfortunately. is there any way for the plex log files to tell me explictly what is causing the issue? i feel like im out of options here.

in due diligence, i installed PMS on the newly built PC, to the same result. this PC is plugged into the same switch as the dedicated PC in question. this is what i get on both PCs currently, regardless of config.

You mentioned that you’ve tried port forwarding, DMZ, vpn, etc. -

VPN is often problematic. Is that currently enabled or disabled? Start with it disabled.

DMZ is a special “catch-all” type of port forwarding, and should typically not be used.

Can you share a screenshot of the current port forwarding configuration? What is the make/model of the router?

If you visit canyouseeme.org, does the address shown match the Public IP on the Plex Remote Access screen?

tried with VPN disabled and enabled.
dmz did not work either.

i have the fiber modem router from my ISP, with DHCP disabled, and port forwarded.
i have a ubiquiti dream router with dhcp enabled and port forwarded. attached are the current configs, i have tried different port combos with no luck. no matter the port config, they appear to remain closed when using port checkers.

ip does match with canyouseeme as well.

The port forward seems ok. It also looks like you’re not in a CGNAT of your ISP…
When you cannot see/access the port from outside your home network it implies there’s a problem between “the internet” / your ISP and the router. Do you get a different result if you try a different public port?

Otherwise you might want to contact your ISP to verify if they might be blocking some traffic (usually “for security reasons”).

I agree that the port forwarding settings each look reasonable, but there may be some conflict if the ISP equipment is still in “router” mode. That’s also likely to introduce a Double NAT scenario.

Does the ISP fiber modem router have a “bridged” option? If so, that would be the simplest - it will make the Ubiquiti responsible for all routing functions.

On the Ubiquiti, can you see the IP address on the WAN/Internet interface?

which ports would you like me to check?

unfortunately i cant seem to find any option for bridge mode on the ISP modem. oddly, when plex was running on the Synology, i did not have this problem - which was only two days ago. here is what i get from the ubiquiti for wan ip.

You could try some common ones in hopes they’re not blocked (e.g. 80, 8080).

80 and 8080 are both showing closed.

Then you should probably reach out to your ISP…

i will reach out and report back when i have an update.

i reached out to them were far from helpful. basically telling me ports are blocked and they cannot be opened, ect. a tech is coming in two days. is there anything i can try until then to get things working?

If your ISP is blocking those ports, you’re pretty much depending on them.

are there not other ports i could try? any other work around?

You’re in a double-NAT situation. Your WAN IP on your UDR is 192.168.1.195; this is a private, RFC-1918 IP address, not routable on the public Internet. That 104.202.150.x IP address is the WAN IP address of your ISP modem/router.

Try logging into your ISP modem/router and creating a port-forwarding rule that forwards TCP 40425 to TCP 40525, IP 192.168.1.195. Post a screenshot of this newly-created rule if you continue to have issues.

for confirmation, this is what you’re looking for?

and also keeping this rule in the UDR?

Yes, that’s right. The forwarded ports should match whatever you set as the manually-forwarded port in Plex’s Remote Access settings.

And for the UDR rule, it should be:

  • Port: 42500
  • Dest Port/IP: 192.168.0.212:32400

You’ve got the two ports reversed currently.

good catch, apologies for that. updated:
