Media server stuck on "Starting"?

That is EXACTLY what I have been experiencing since yesterday, but I did not have problems with channels not working (I'm using an atv). For me post #1 also did the trick in about one minute of work, great solution :D

Thanks Jam,

Deleting the framework.bundle and restarting did the trick.

I’m having the same issue. Critical update 2 days ago and after that the Plex Server isn’t getting beyond Starting. Post #1 did fix that issue (temporarily), but after that playing videos from some channels in the Plex for Roku player resulted in the app quiting (e.g. uitzending gemist channel).

After restarting the Plex Server (on Mac 10.6.8) it’s stuck on Starting again.

I’m having this issue as well. I have tried the methods listed above, deleting the plugins, even as far as a complete uninstall and reinstalling. The server still hangs on startup. if it makes a difference, I’m currently trying to upgrade to 10.8. Plex worked fine for me in 10.7.4

Hi Dev Team,

I’m having issues for a quite some weeks. Tried to do everything I found to fix the Plex Media Server to pass the ‘Starting’ fase and no success… I copied the log crash below if you can help, I will appreciate a lot.

plex server log.rtf (55.8 KB)

plex server logs 2.zip (3.54 KB)

Me and my family thank you guys a lot. Great work.

You included a crash log, but said that the issue is that the PMS is stuck on "Starting...". Was the crash a one-off event or is it something that occurs every time for you?

In general, though, please make sure that you've followed [these instructions](http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_Tips_and_Tricks#Recovering_broken_System.2FFramework.bundle_files), which cover the most common resolution for a stuck "Starting...".

Hey Chris,

Thanks for your replay.

In the second file (zip) in my previous post, I included all logs I found on my MacMini. There is anything else I can get for you?

I tryed all that there is the list to do and more… also reinstalled. Just can´t get Plex Server to work anymore.

I was more looking for some clarification. You're posting in a thread about the Plex Media Server (PMS) being stuck on "Starting..." and mention that it's happening to you. But you also included a crash log, meaning that the PMS crashed (and thus could not still be stuck on "Starting..."). So, do you always get the crash or was that just a one-time event and all the other times the PMS gets stuck?

And just to confirm from you: you *did* try removing the "system.bundle" and "framework.bundle" files as instructed in the link I shared? Just want to make sure that specific thing was one you tried.

If you wanted to try starting over from scratch, you could follow these [uninstallation instructions](http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_Tips_and_Tricks#Plex_Media_Server) (to make sure everything is removed) and then install the PMS again.

In fact it does not crash. I kill the app after some time running.

I just followed the procedure to uninstall and The welcome screen keeps telling me it is starting for the first time and … nothing.

As an idea, can it be some problem with rights? I also tried to check and fix the rights but nothing changed.

I’ve got a 2009 Mac Mini on Mountain Lion. I’ve downloaded PMS v0.9.6.9 but it get’s stuck on the starting screen. So far I’ve tried:
[]Looking for the file to delete in the Plug-Ins folder (the folder is empty)

[
]Uninstalling and re-downloading and re-installing PMS x 4

Searching the forums for the answer
None of this has helped.

I think my issue the same as abizinoto because PMS is not crashing, it’s just stuck on “starting for first time…”

Can anyone offer the next suggestion please?

Folks,

I gave up.

Backed up my system, completely cleared the hard disk and reinstalled everything from scratch.

Installed Plex again and now it is working. But I only did because this Mini I use as a Home Center and Plex worth it.

I believe it is important to find the issue because it can happen again.

I will continue following the forum and trying to help somehow.

Thanks for all help.

The "Plex Media Server.log" file is always useful to see in situations like this. To get a good file:

1. (Force) Quit the Plex Media Server and then restart it.

2. Wait maybe 30s

3. Zip up the "Plex Media Server.log" file and attach to a reply here. See the logs link in my signature for information.

You mention that your "Plug-ins" folder is empty. Just to check, but are you sure you're checking under "~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/" (aka "/Users/yourusername/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/") and not the system "/Library/" folder? Starting with OS X 10.7 Lion, Apple has hidden the user library folder, so it's an easy mistake to make. The link mentioned above for logs has info on accessing the correct folder.

If you **are** looking in the correct place and there are no files in that "Plug-ins" folder, then the two things that might cause it I can think off offhand:

- Ownership/permission issues with that directory stopping the files from being created in that directory

- Perhaps the "rsync" app/utility isn't located in the normal place and can't be called during the installation procedure, which would also stop the files from being able to be copied over to that directory. This is quite unlikely unless you're an advanced user that messed around with backend system stuff.

Hi Chris,
Please find the log attached. I double checked and I was definitely looking in the correct Plug-ins folder.
Your help is much appreciated.

I’m having the same issue with the lasted PMS (Version 0.9.6.9.240-8fd9c6a) on Mountain Lion. Completely uninstalled the server by following the the instructions here (http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_Tips_and_Tricks#Mac_OS_X_2) and reinstalled the server but it’s still stuck on Starting. Log file is attached. Looks like there’s some issue with the System plugin.

Hi all,

I have the same problem. Impossible to start the server app. I am running mac mini server on Lion 10.7.4 and cannot find the “Plex folder” on the “application support” folder. How is that possible ? I Checked on the different users and nothing is there. I had a crash on the finder today and it is from that moment that it appeared.

Till now i had no problem and when i made the upgrade, i had also no problem.

On time machine, i put back the previous version but without success. I am out of idea so if you can help, i would deeply appreciate.

Thx for your attention

Oki, i could find the plug-ins andtrash the right one but my problem still exist. Thx for your help !

Trying to install on Mac OS X 10.7.4, is stuck on “Welcome to/ Starting.” Interestingly, though, I can open Plex on my Nexus 7 and see and use my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, but cannot do any more than that. I’ve tried uninstalling and re-installing PMS, and looked for plug-ins to delete as suggested by early forum, but cannot find a plug-ins folder for this. I went deeper into the installation instructions…I swear I’m doing everything right, yet there’s that “Welcome to” screen…the wheel turning and turning. Help. Thank you.

For some reason, I cannot find the file that needs to be deleted.

When I go to “/Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins” in Finder. I tried doing a search for the “Framework.bundle”, but nothing turned up..

Disregard my last post. I just found where OSX 10.8.2 is hiding my Library folder…

Hi this morning i have update my plex server to 00.9.6.9.240 and now its stuck at starting. I have try to remove the item in plugin folder even remove all of the install file but plex media server is still stuck at the welcome starting screen ! Im running plex server on snow lion 10.8.2.
