looks exactly the same as robotmachine's issue - have you made any changes to the python config on your box?
I don’t use python so have not changed anything as far as I’m aware.
I have tried doing a time machine restore on the python files as mentioned above.
I am trying to run it on a Mac Pro.
Thanks
Sorry for not posting sooner, was busy.
Restoring those files only worked one time. I rebooted and the same problem came back. Restoring them again did not allow it to start up. I did an Archive+Install from the Snow Leopard disk (ie. telling it to install the OS over what is already there) and that has been working reliably. I have rebooted several times and it has behaved normally so far. Archive+Install does not remove any personal data and does not require you to set up anything again. I fully removed PMS before doing the OS install, but I would assume that just deleting the framework.bundle and system.bundle files would work.
Please back up your data before doing an archive and install. It is not supposed to remove any personal data or make any changes to your user folders, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't back up first.
Thank you robot machine.
I am happy to try doing that. I do not have a disc version of the latest OS though as have purchased the last two upgrades straight from the App Store. Do you know if it will let me do this from the downloaded image?
Thanks again.

I have no idea, I'm afraid. If you contact Apple support they should be able to give you guidance.
I will give it a try when I get home and just see what happens.
Well I have managed to get it working but only with a work around.
Reinstalled OS but did not resolve it.
I can get it to work if I go to the plex server app. And show package contents. Then run the server via the terminal programme within the package contents.
Works fine that way. If I stop it and try and open the app it again hangs on the starting???
Anyone have any idea why?
Hi,
I am a brand new Plex user (installed today!) but I can not open the app.
Keeps saying "Starting"... Getting really disheartened and I haven't even managed to open the app yet :(
I have followed this thread and have done the steps people have suggested but still not working.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance, really eager to start using Plex.

You seem to have installed PMS on a Mac. Which Mac is it and which OS version?
Also, any reason why you have installed PMS 0.9.7.17 instead of 0.9.7.22?
Hi Atrus,
I installed the latest 0.9.7.22 and had the same issue, so I tried an earlier version to see if it had any more luck.
Mac is Late 2011 MacBook Pro 13 Inch. OSX - 10.7.5
Thanks,

Which Python version do you have on your Mac? Just type python in terminal and hit enter. That will tell you which version you have.
Hi Atrus,
Much appreciated for your help.
2.7.3 (v2.7.3:70274d53c1dd)
Does that give any more of a clue?
Thanks bud.

Interesting. Looks like you have manually updated Python. Or?
2.7.2 is the one that ships with 10.8.3. If you update Python you can't update the system one as other stuff relies on it too.
You should be doing it in a descreet path (and adding that path to your setup as needed)
Or are you running a pre-release of 10.8.4 or something like that?
So you think if i revert to a default install of Python the one that ships with 10.7 you reckon I might have a better change of it working.
Do the logs give any clue as to why Plex has an issue with my version of Python?

No, the log tells me nothing I am afraid. But I know that people who manually have updated Python often ends up in trouble. If you are using Snow Leopard I believe version 2.6.1 is the one Apple ships, and with Mountain Lion I know it is 2.7.2. With Lion it is 2.7.1 I believe. If you are on Lion I would revert to 2.7.1 yes.
I am running Lion. Will try and revert back to 2.7.1 and see how I get on. Struggle to see how such a small version change would stop Plex from even opening when it runs fine for others on higher version of Plex right?
Will feedback how it goes, thanks again for your help Atrus :)
Ok so reinstalled the OS, (just the OS didn't do a clean install) still showing as 2.7.3 but now fires up and seems to work ok! very strange.

But... but... that is impossible. How can you have 2.7.3 directly after reinstalling 10.7? Has there been a new update of 10.7 quite recently which upgrades Python perhaps? And maybe you installed that upgrade when reinstalling 10.7?
Anyways, glad it now works.
Excatly what I thought!
I used the recovery (cmd+r) when booting up so it downloaded the OS from Apples servers and reinstalled purely just the OS.
Quite possible they have updated the version of Python in their stored OSX version.
Either way happy it now works. I was expeting to have an application interface with Plex Media Server but I see it's all web based now. Just happy to be using it and seems to be working well also.
Thanks for the help!
