Media server stuck on "Starting"?

So I can't even begin to explain how many problems I have been having with plex.  It went from working perfectly, to no longer working at all.  I've tried everything in this forum and finally just deleted the PMS and tried to restart all over again.

AT which point it told me a problem had been detected with a core component of plex… no idea what's going on and after years of using and loving plex I am about to give up all together.  Would love to use the new software and would love to buy a lifetime of plexpass but at this time I don' really see the point.

Below is my log.. can anyone help?

-gtori-

Quit PMS, delete System.bundle and Framework.bundle and then start up PMS again.

Quit PMS, delete System.bundle and Framework.bundle and then start up PMS again.

I did that and it worked for about a week, though stopped working on all my other players, then nothing worked after that,

So far I have deleted PMS all together and I have started rebuilding my library from the ground up… fingers crossed

I've never tried Plex before and just downloaded it... I have the same issue. It just hangs there saying "starting" for hours.

I tried the above advices - both the fast one (deleting system and framework.bundle) and the complete removal (and yes - I did go into the proper library with the Go... ~/library command).

Running Mavericks on a 2011 iMac.

Just tried again this morning. Same issue

I went through the steps here: http://wiki.plexapp.com/index.php/PlexNine_PMS_TipsTricks#Mac_OS_X_2 and also removed any old log-files I could find that seemed to be related to plex.

Downloaded PlexMediaServer-0.9.8.14.263-139ddbc-OSX.zip, unpacked and copied the app file to my applications folder. Had nothing else opened and did it after a reboot.

Launched the Plex Media Server app. Got a security warning (the usual stuff about the app being downloaded from the internet), answered ok and now +15 minutes later it still just hangs there saying "Starting".

I have allowed any apps to be opened in the security settings of mac osx.

Attached are the log files. I can't see anything interesting in the plex media server one, but the system one has some critical warning...

Plex Media Server.log (410 KB)

com.plexapp.system.log (186 KB)

What should I do?

What should I do?

What can you see in here:

/Volumes/DATA/nikolajkyndbyhentzen/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins/

Also, do you have PMS on a separate hard drive, or is that really your internal hard drive?

Ah... that's probably it.

I have two (internal) hard drives in my iMac. An HDD labelled DATA for al the data (documents, music etc) and an SSD (Labelled BigMac StartDisk) for apps and the OS it self.

Both drives seems to have a Library/Application Support folder. Some apps uses the one on the SSD while others (including PMS) uses the HDD. See the attached screenshot

(The OS X is Danish, so e.g. Bibliotek = Library, but you'll figure it out)

...but there are many apps using the Application Support folder on the DATA drive without any issues.

Sorry if I missed it, but does your PMS use the Application Support folder from the hard drive which has the booted OS, or does it use the AS folder from the non-booted OS?

Because if it is the latter I can easily see creating some sorts of rights based issue.

I am stuck here.. I cannot find the folder, and when i search for the files nothing comes up. Any other hints or help??

I seem to be having crashing on start problem. Hoping to get some help. I've looked through this thread and removed the offending files from my library folder.

The last version of plex that works for me is PlexMediaServer-0.9.8.5

Every version since this had not opened for me. I see "Starting" for about 15 seconds and then it crashes.

Love Plex!& would like to get it working again. Thanks!

Her is my my Crash Log:

I fixed my problem - I had two user accounts on my mac and The one I was using did not have Root access. This was causing conflicts.

I am having the same problem. Went from rock solid to total crap recently. Can't open up the web media manager, media plays once in a great while....

have you done a bundle reset?

have you done a bundle reset?

I just did a complete wipe and reinstall. Still not working. Console posted here:

depending on what you mean by that, it may or may not have done a bundle reset - have you specifically done a bundle reset?

I deleted the Application Support folder, the preferences files, the app.

Not sure what else I can do? If it is something done within the app, can't do it since it won't load.

Just had this fault on version 0.9.8.17.282-c844f09

Fixed with method described in first post in thread:

If you've been hit by this problem, you can resolve it by taking the following steps:

  • Quit the media server by selecting the Plex icon in your Mac's menu bar, and choosing "Quit" from the drop-down menu.
  • Open the folder "/Users/(username)/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins" in Finder.
  • Delete "Framework.bundle", and "System.bundle" or move them to the trash.
  • Restart Plex Media Server.

Cheers

Having now restarted PMS a number of times, it will only work (ie. not get stuck) when i do the steps mentioned above.  I can then run PMS once.  If I then start PMS, quit it, and restart, it hangs on 'Starting'.  Computer runs fine, just PMS hanging.

I'm running OSX 10.9.1, and version 0.9.8.17.282-c844f09.

It's annoying to remember to do it each time, but I haven't noticed any functionality issues when it is running.

EDIT: Have just tried with 0.9.8.18.290-11b7fdd, had the same issue first run, deleted framework.bundle only and ran fine.  Have now restarted a few times and continues to run fine...

Just downloaded plex media server.  When I start it up, it quits every time.  I've deleted the two files in the plugins folder, doesn't help.

I have done all of the previous suggestions...no help either.  I choose to buy a Mac rather than a PC because they where more friendly and stable.  Thats the least thing i can say here for PLEX (Mac edition)!!!

ITS TIME FOR PLEX TO STEP UP ITS GAME HERE!  I PAY FOR A PLEX PASS TO SUPPORT THEM, AND I EXPECT A WORKING PRODUCT FOR ANYTHING I PAY FOR! I AM OBVIOUSLY NOT THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS ISSUE!

HEY PLEX, HOW ABOUT AN OFFICIAL AWNSER ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING TO FIX THIS!
