This is a while after starting - Media Server starts up probably since the fix mentioned in this thread.
I suspect it is hanging during a media scraping update. Where can I find the PMS logs and what would you like me to post? Thanks!
~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Scanner and Server
If it's really hung, Force Quitting and pasting the subsequent hang report would be much appreciated.
I've been seeing something very similar. While watching a show, the frame will start to freeze, but audio will continue, but eventually die. If I can get the show to stop, Plex will hang while "Waiting for Plex Media Server". I'll quit Plex, and Plex Media Server becomes unresponsive. Restarting PMS resolves the issue for an hour or two, but it's been regularly locking up like this the past couple of nights.
I've attached two sets of logs which should stop right at the point of the freeze.
I've also attached a Sample Process Log, from an unresponsive PMS.
This same thing has been happening to quite a few people over in the thread “Media Server Freezing” exactly as you describe. The video hangs while the audio continues, then it just dies and the media server hangs and must be force quit. I tried reinstalling Plex, but the same problem occurs.
Thanks, attached - I'm not sure it's properly crashed since you can go into Activity Monitor and plain 'quit' the Media Server rather than having to force quit it explicitly. It's just that I can't get to the menu extra to quit it properly :)
It seems from these logs that Media Server is happily doing stuff in the background but the menu extra isn't responding. Not sure if this affects actual usage of Plex, I haven't tried.
Let me know if you need anything else.

Those logs look super innocent, very confused.
Next time it happens I could force quit from Activity Monitor if you like - would this generate a crash log? At the moment I'm just quitting normally (albeit from Activity Monitor).
It's also worth nothing it looks like the crawler log stops at 11am - but I took this log at 4pm; mousing over the menu extra during this time would have shown me the SPOD as it did at 4pm when I uploaded the file.
If you could try reproducing, I’d be super interested, i.e. does scanning always generate SPOD? Then we could get you a debug build, attach with gdb, etc.
Yup, just confirmed... SPODing right now :)
And I'm back at home, so it's not a network access/firewall thing :/
Any other logs/process samples I can take right now, let me know. You're welcome to IM me as well - let me know on forum DM if so.
Here are my logs after a hang and a force quit. It hung almost immediately this time.
FWIW, the latest hotfix to Media Server fixes these issues for me.

Yes, I seem to be good now as well. Cheers.
First off Love Plex, thanks guys.
I just recently moved and when I went to start plex again the PMS didn’t run so I tried all the above steps and still cant get the PMS to run. Are there any more suggestions?
Is it stuck on “Starting…” or does it simply not run?
From what I can tell its not running.. It doesn't show in the activity monitor nor in the control panel at the top. When I tried to open it in the finder from /Library/Application Support/Plex/Plex Media Server.app nothing happens.
Can you run from the Terminal and/or check for ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server.log ?
Here is is Plex Media Server.log

Um, that looks fine until it totally stops. No crash, or crash reports??
Nope, I dont even see it open up in the system tray.
