The system tray? If anything, you should see it in the menu bar.
I'd whack everything in ~/L/AS/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins and restart.
Yeah, thats is what I meant to say.
That didn’t fix it.
In that case, especially if you don’t have stuff in your library, which ~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server and start Plex.
A crash report would be helpful, if you have one.
Is this good?
Very :) You can either install the latest hot-fix release from the blog, or give your computer a name in System Preferences > Sharing.
Perfect! I though my computer use to have a name…
Thanks for all the help!
I’ve been trying to sort out my music folder into Plex - but it kept crashing the media server… I had no replies to my posts so I just persevered, hoping it would work…
ANYWAY - Whilst it was trying to update the music folder it froze my Mac… beyond saving… and I had to cut the power and restart…
Now, when I try to load the media server, it stays on Starting for a long while, loading away… before it just freezes (the spinning icon, not the computer) and crashes. Therefore I can’t load up the media server. I installed the fix, hoping that would solve it but no luck. I assume the Music folder is corrupt or something, but I can’t load up the media server to delete it.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated… thanks
EDIT - I’ve noticed on the Scanner and Server logs it keeps saying ‘database’ is locked - would this be the reason? And how do I resolve it? ALSO it has created an old log of Scanner and Server as well, is this normal?
I just scanned my entire music folder in as a test case the other night, which is about 1200 artists and 40,000 tracks and it all went swimmingly, so I'm curious to see what could possibly be different in your case.
This is rather surprising, and cutting the power is a very bad thing, as it can corrupt the database.
I would assume it's crashing because your database has been corrupted, but without logs/crash report I'm just guessing. You can try setting aside your old database (~/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.library.db) and see if that help.
An occasional report of this is normal, but no, it's not normal for it to continue to talk about it. I suspect a bug.
Try setting aside your database, starting from scratch, and see if you have any better luck scanning your music section.
I had the same issue with the Plex Media Server that was stuck on starting. I downloaded AppCleaner and uninstalled Plex. There was a lot of files to delete because I had Plex 8 installed. Then I resinstalled Plex and the three first hotfix that you can find here : http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php?/topic/18863-current-issues-and-hot-fixes-updated-2010-10-04/ .
Now Plex is working without issue and I have more free space on my hard drive !
@elan : It would be great if you could create a new build of Plex with all the hotfix. There is too much people on the forum reporting issues that can be solved with the hotfix or a new install. Thanks
Yep, trust me, it's on our list :-)
Elan, thank you for your advice… I did just that and now the Media Manager has loaded as normal (sans the old database obviously)… I think I’ll leave my music library off of it this time, just incase. I have around 50,000 songs (1618 artists), so it’s not a great deal more than yours… I wonder if it was indeed a bug in the case! Do you mind me asking roughly how long it took for you to load your music library?
As for cutting the power I unfortunately had no other option as the whole thing had frozen and I could do nothing else… Obviously that corrupted the database.
Mitch - Thanks also for your advice, coincidentally when I was looking for the database file I saw the Plex 8 files and deleted them… Fingers crossed now!
Anyway, thanks again Elan, and thanks for Plex 9! Let’s hope this has sorted it all out!!
I am experiencing the same issue…I have the grey window stating that plex is starting.
I uninstalled the app by removing both folders in /user/library/application support and tried reinstalling the app. I continue to get the starting dialog.
I am using plex 9.1.1
Please help.
Can you post the ~/Library/Logs/PMS Plugin Logs/com.plexapp.system.log to pastie.org so we can have a look?
Many thanks!
I have the PMS Plugin Logs folder, but it's empty.
FYI, mac mini with 10.6.4
Hmmm…how about ~/Library/Logs/Plex Media Server.log ?
I appreciate the help:. Plex Medio Server.log is here: http://pastie.org/1251329
Here's the evil line:
<br />
Error reading from plug-in [com.plexapp.system], we're killing it (got: '')<br />
That's very confusing to me. Can you try whacking Framework.bundle and System.bundle in ~/L/AS/PMS/Plug-ins and restarting the media server?
And are you absolutely sure there is no com.plexapp.system.log file?
Removed those files. Restarted the media server. Same results.
New log file is here: http://pastie.org/1253588
Thanks again for your help.
I am seeing this issue as well, same crash message. I am a first time plex user and it has never been installed on my Mac before. I am running a mac mini with 10.6.4. One thing I have noticed is that when I launch plex, something is causing libxml2 to crash python and I am getting an app crash window for python, usually about 30 seconds after the startup window loads... Have tried deleting all the suggested files and directories, and the executable's... Still no luck...
I think I've heard of something like that happening if Airfoil is installed? I might be totally misremembering, though. Can you paste the crash report in here (or via pastie.org)?
