Media Server Update Problem

Just checked again. Plex is in the folder C: Program Files (x86). It is also in the C: Program Files folder. Are you suggesting I try deleting the Plex folder in C: Program Files (x86), the 32 bit version?

Precisely. Whether this succeeds or not will determine the next steps.

Will give that a try now

Won’t let me delete the folder because the folder or a file in it is open in another program

Open the “services” control panel (services.msc) and stop the “Plex Updater service”.
Do also open the task manager (CTRL+Shift+Esc) and look for running Plex processes. Shut them down.
Then try again to delete the folder.

Otto. Managed to stop updater in task manager (was only plex item active), but plex update service in “services” won’t highlight to let me stop it.

I’m not sure what you mean by “won’t highlight”. Does the service appear in the list or is it absent?

it’s there in the list , telling me it’s “running” but when I right click, only the “Start” option is in bold text, the others, including “stop” are not bold (highlighted), therefore not active. Hope this description helps.

That is very weird. Can you “disable” it? If so, do it, then restart Windows.

The option to disable does not exist, or at least, is not visible. Only options I’m able to command are “refresh” & to access “properties”. I “refreshed” the services folder & I now see that the plex update service is no longer “running”, according to the status column

Very good. Re-attempt the deletion now.

Yep. was able to delete plex from C: Program Files (x86). Should I now restart Windows?

Yes. Then check for the Plex icon in the task tray.

Will do that now. Will update you when up & running after restart. Otto, truly, I can’t thank you enough for your help & patience. Very much appreciated.

That’s me back. No plex icon in task tray but there are 2 Plex’s in the Start Menu program list. One is merely titled Plex & the other is titled Plex Media Server. As yet I haven’t used them. Should I open / start them?

“Plex” is the pure player app.

Start “Plex Media Server”.
then open a web browser and point it to http://localhost:32400/web

Believe it or not, despite the problems, I love using Plex

doing that now

Ahhh. when starting Plex Media Server I’m told the shortcut no longer exists, in fact, the icon has now deleted itself from Start Menu. Shall I start the remaining Plex icon?

No, look for the .exe inside the C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server folder and place a shortcut to it on your desktop (for now). Then execute that one.
