Media Server Update Problem

trying that now

There are 2 folders in C: Program Files> Plex. One is just “plex”, the other "plex media player. There’s an exe file in “plex” , should I copy that to the desktop?

We want the one from C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server

As I said, there isn’t a folder in C: Program Files> Plex which is titled Plex Media Server, just Plex & Plex Media Player

Then you probably haven’t downloaded the 64 bit version of Plex media server, but just the player app.
(The 64 bit version of the server is actually not officially available for download, yet.)

So back to the beginning.
Have you tried to use the Microsoft installer fixit to remove the pms-shutdown.msi?

No, haven’t used that. Should I get it & try it? I assume a search will find it?

It was linked above. Here is the direct link Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Otto. Just realised when I clicked the link & saw what it was. I do have that software & I did run it earlier. It was running that which resulted in letting me do the “uninstall” of the older Plex. shall I run it again?

Yes, and point it to that pms-shutdown when it asks.

Sorry for another “I’m a dafty” question. It’s asking me if I’m having a problem installing or uninstalling a programme, what am I doing?

We want to uninstall pms-shutdown

Got it, doing so now

Only Plex option it’s offering is “Stopping Plex” When clicking on that it asks if I want to “Yes, try uninstall” or “No, try other fixes”

Yes, obviously.

Sorry for my naivity, I’m not a PICNIC but I’m not a PC wizard either

Right. I’m told the problem is fixed but I wasn’t asked anything about searching for pms-shutdown.msi

Good. Let’s restart Windows once again, then download the latest installer for Plex Server and try to install it.

Before I restart - Will the new installer be the one from the Plex website 32 bit? If I’m understanding correctly what you said earlier, I think I previously made the mistake of downloading the higher bit Media Player instead of the required 32 bit Media Server

Correct.

Restarting now.
