why wont plex update?

keeps giving me an error when trying to update. here is the log. any one experiencing this? pretty frustrating when plex keeps crashing no matter what i try and the answer i seem to find on the forum is to update!

What OS? How are you doing the update - from within the app or do you download the installer and do a manual install?

windows 7 OS and ive tried both. direct download from the website and in the plex media server

Are you running SP1 and are you fully patched, including IE11? The Visual C++ redistributable isn’t getting installed, and the usual culprit is dependencies that Microsoft introduced recently that require patches to be installed in order to install it.

my copy of windows is not genuine. upgraded to windows 10 a few months ago and didnt like it. when i reverted to windows 7 it informed me my copy was not genuine. i do not use internet explorer. Chrome is my default and PMS runs through that. PMS only started crashing this week though.

if going genuine will help my cause i will go back to windows 10. how does PMS run on windows 10?

It runs just fine on Windows 10.

If that “not-genuine” flag doesn’t getcha now, it will getcha sooner rather than later. Call Microsoft and explain you want to stay with 7, or upgrade.

As for PMS on Win10, it works fine.

im now windows 10 genuine and still crashing after one episode or movie. still getting same error message when trying to update.

If you download the update from plex.tv, close the Plex server, and install it manually, do you still get that error message?
