Media Server Version 1.13.4.5271 on Synology DS418play

Hi, my Synology DS418play running the latest version of DSM 6.2-23739 Update 2 will not install the new release of PlexMediaServer-1.13.4.5271-200287a06-x86.spk
I get the following error: This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version.

Could take a look and update the package accordingly please?

Thanks

Try the x86_64 package

Yep, that worked. Thanks.
I didn’t choose which package to download, I simply accepted the package that the client running on my W10 machine offered me. I’ll try to remember to watch out for that in future updates.
Thanks again.

Hello,

Having the same issue with a DS218+, though the link worked, thanks.

Seems like by mistake the x86 link gets provided within the server.

@springdale

If you have the 32 bit version installed, it will update to the 32 bit version.

This is why you must download manually to upgrade to 64 bits.

Sorry Chuck, who was talking about upgrading to 64 bit?

springdale_upcmail_hu had commented on how it ‘Seems like by mistake the x86 link gets provided within the server.’

I was merely explainging how the update mechanism works. The update mechanism looks at current configuration and finds the next higher revision.

Stepping from 32 bit to 64 bit is changing the architecture tag of the package itself and hence an ‘upgrade’ even though it’s already on a 64 bit CPU.

Thanks Chuck.
Are you saying that my prior installation was 32 bit then? I did’t think so. If it were then surely the update would have installed?

Scenario 1) A 32 bit ver was installed. I download the 32 bit update that was fed me and it installs correctly - no?
Scenario 2) A 64 bit ver was installed but I was fed a 32 bit update. Which is what I believe to be the case.

Sorry if I’m being a muppet here.
Cheers.

So is that irrespective of the architecture?

@Cmdr_Trubshaw

Precisely. It saw you had 32 bit installed. It looked for an update to what it knew which is always the safest posture to take.

It would never downgrade you from 64 bits to 32 bits. We’d have caught that in QA before it got out the door

PS: Don’t worry about feeling like a muppet, Trumpy is king muppet but don’t tell him that, ok? lolol

I am sorry I don’t know if I had the 32 or 64 bits variant installed, I installed what was available from the Synology Package Center, and did not had this issue with the updates that have to be done manually - until now.

Nevermind, found the root cause in another topic:

BTW, why isn’t it possible to have PMS updated via Package Center?

I’m working on that with Synology.

We don’t understand why 64 bit systems are being given 32 bit packages.

Part of the changes I made yesterday should also help them to get the right package to you.

Until this is resolved with Synology:

  1. Plex.tv/Downloads
  2. Download the 64-bit package (DSM 6.0 and higher)
  3. in your Package Center, uninstall the binaries (your library is safe)
  4. Manual Install the X86_64 SPK you just downloaded
  5. Restart DSM just to be absolutely certain. Most systems are fine. Occasionally some are touchy
