My Plex Media Server has suddenly stopped running. I’ve made no changes to my server. When I start it, it runs for about five seconds and then quits. I tried re-starting the computer, repairing the installation and un-installing and re-installing. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Did you move the Plex data folder to a different location?
And if you did, was it on a removable drive? And if so, did this drive perhaps change its drive letter recently?
Take a look into the registry, where Plex is expecting to find its data folder.
It’s in the key LocalAppDataPath
If it points to a different drive letter than what your drive actually has, it will lead to an immdeiate crash.
Either edit the registry key, so it points to the right drive letter,
or change the drive letter of the drive back to what it used to be.
The latter is preferred, if you also have media files on the same drive.
I didn’t change anything, and when I re-installed it, I couldn’t get it to run long enough to set anything up. I’ll take a look at those settings tho. Thanks!
Okay, I could not find the LocalAppDataPath key in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server, so I uninstalled again, re-started, deleted the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc. key, re-started, re-installed, and re-started again. The Chrome browser starts up like it’s trying to run it, but it just spins at “Waiting for 127.0.0.1”. Are there any other registries that I need to edit? I’d like to re-state that this setup has been running fine for years, and I made no changes. The drive with the media is an internal drive with the letter D. I am able to access the drive with no issues. I’m also able to access web pages on other tabs. Thanks!
That simply means that you are still using the default location of the data folder.
And that my assumption about the cause of the crash was not correct.
If you are in the registry anyway, inspect the key logDebug and set it to value 1, if it’s not already set.
Reboot your windows machine,
try to start up Plex server again (using its icon in the start menu)
then wait 2 minutes,
go and zip the whole folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex Media Server\Logs
and paste or drag the zip file into the message editor of this forum
For anyone reading this. I found that my database was somehow corrupted most likely because I attempted to do a Empty Trash and then clean bundles like a dumbass.
Deleting the following file: com.plexapp.plugins.library.db in the PATH: /Plug-in Support/Databases/com.plexapp.plugins.library.db solved the issue.
Yes I attempted to try this but because I am a special all 3 of my backups were dead. Someway, somehow so I had to go nuclear and start all over which in my situation was fine. I don’t have several TBs of media
