Media stops playing after 30-40 seconds (Client stopped playback?)

I’ve been completely stuck with how to fix this problem all day. It has only started happening within the last 24 hours or so but Plex has become unusable.

Plex is running on a Synology NAS and is playing on a Chromecast Ultra. I have run this set up for years without any issues. Now, when I play any media it will randomly stop playing around the 30-40 second mark. It will stop completely as if I have hit the stop button on my remote.

This happens in about 1 in every 2-3 streams. I have been playing random videos from my library and about every second or third stream will completely stop at around 30 seconds. Other streams will continue playing as normal.

The media files themselves are fine - work as normal in VLC. Also, Plex works fine from other clients (Plex Web and iOS have no issues).

There are weird things happening in the logs that I do not really understand. Really hoping that someone smarter than me can chime in!

UPDATE: This also happens with my regular Chromecast on a different TV.

2nd UPDATE: This only happens when casting from iOS. Works perfectly casting from Web.

I have the same issue. I’m using a qnap nas, and it’s worked fine for years… now both my Chromecast are doing the same thing. Works for about 30 seconds then turns off… I’ve deleted the app, and started over… worked fine for 1 show maybe then right back to shutting down…

Extremely frustrating.

I found if I cast from the iOS app to any device and leave the app open or running in the background it will stop playback after 30 seconds. If I close the app, it continues playing just fine. I believe this issue is with the iOS app.

Yeah if I close the app after I start casting it plays as normal. Leave the app open and the problem still persists.

Been over 2 weeks with no updates from Plex though. :frowning:

I also have the exact same problem. Playback stops randomly after about 30 seconds casting from ios and ipados to Chromecast gen 3 and Chromecast 4k. This does not happen when casting from my windows pc to chromecast.
