Casting from iOS stops after about 1 minute

Server Version#: 1.20.2.3370
Player Version#: 7.6.1

Ever since the most recent update of the iOS Plex app I’ve been unable to watch anything by casting to my Chromecast Ultra. The media will start playing, but stops and the chromecast returns to its idle screen abruptly after approximately 1 minute of playback. If however I grab an Android device and set up the casting from that, it will play without issues, so I know the problem is specific to the iOS player.

I found some older articles suggesting that the “Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than” option can cause this, and tried blanking it as they suggested however it seems the current version of Plex Media Server will default that back to 0 if it’s left blank.

I have this problem too (and so do some others according to forum posts).

It is definitely a bug but I have no idea how to get the attention of the Plex team.

Bump – anyone from Plex able to comment, either with a workaround or at least an acknowledgement of the bug?

I have this same issue. If I swipe to close the app it’s fine, but if I leave it running it will stop playback I whatever device I’m casting to (I have several different types). Definitely a bug in iOS.

Bumping.
I’ve tried setting the “Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than” to various different things. 0, 30, 300, etc and it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
I also have 3 different types of Chromecasts. 1st gen, 2nd gen, and the new “Chromecast with Google TV” all which act that same.
I just tried xCALCULON’s suggestion of once casting starts closing the Plex app on my iPhone and that appears to prevent the issue from happening.

Are all of you on version 7.6.1? I am trying to reproduce with the current 7.8.1 and it seems to play fine. I’m about 30 min into a movie right now. App remains open on my iPad

I am on 7.8.1 and it still happens. I am on an iPhone though (not sure if that makes a difference?)

Might have to do with iOS version. I am on a pretty old iPad that can only update to iOS 12.x. I’ll see if someone else with iOS 14.x can reproduce.

Can any of you share the app logs after the thing stops on the chromecast.

Definitely not IOS. I’ve been complaining about this issue for over a month, and nothing. I can stream from my nas to the firestick. The Chromecast cast will work for one show, and then it stops on another.
I’m on iOS 14. I’ve rolled back my Plex back several updates, and it seems to work for a bit and then back to 1 min shut down

I didn’t mean it was iOS fault but it might be a combination of things. I’ve now tested on multiple devices and I can’t repro on any of them. if you can provide the app logs after it happens it would be appreciated.

I have full logs here

The app logs, not your server logs.

Sorry, attached (I believe)

Thanks. I see it loosing connection to your Living Room Chromecast but can’t figure out why yet

Thank you for checking. Just to add that I have tested with two iPhones, two different TVs, a Chromecast and a Chromecast Ultra and the issue is the same with all devices.

The only way to avoid the issue is to close the app once you’ve started casting.

I will have to try closing the app??. Thanks for that… at least it’s something to try

Not sure if this is how you post the logs?. I don’t know how to zip them from my iPad? This is AFTER the newest Plex update today

Those were web app logs. Info on how to get iOS app logs can be found here https://support.plex.tv/articles/201636593-ios-logs/#toc-0

Thanks… hopefully this is the right one?
