Chromecast stops casting after 5-10 minutes, no error message?

Hi. My problem with the chromecast is that it stops casting after 5-10 minutes. There are no error messages and I can start casting again and then it runs for 5-10-15 minuters more and then the screen “Ready to cast” appears again.

ios app works flawlessly in the same room
new apple tv works flawlessly

I tried the new chromecast dongle exact same problem.
It never stutters, just quits to “Ready to cast screen”
I tried turning off direct streaming and direct playing thing in ios app settings, no difference
Turn on/off subtitles, no difference
On/off burn subtitles, no difference

Have tried rebooting everything even the mac mini that runs PMS 4 meters from the chomecast, alst to airport extreme also 4 meters from the chromecast.

I play mostly mkv. 720p

Is it a common problem or where should I begin to search?

The same setup used to work a couple of months ago without problem, I cannot exactly say when I stopped working. But has there mayb bees some Plex update that has sc**wed playback up?

How full is the system drive on your computer?
Plex needs to save temp files when transcoding which is probably happening for the CCast while the Apple devices are Direct Playing (No Transcode)
If it runs out of space it simply stops.

I’m also having this issue. I’ve completely removed Plex Media Server from the PC and cleaned all remaning traces.
I’ve gone down to a previous version of plex, same result.
I do have the Chromecast set as a static IP in the router.

AsphyxNYC, My system drive has over 400GB free. The external HDD that is USB 3.0 that I’m playing the media off has about 600GB free.

I’ve ran Seatools over the media drive and that didn’t pick anything up.

@PyRoX - Well in your case how long before the stream stops?
I’m guessing you get 15 - 30 Minutes before the stream stops not just 5 - 10.
That could be your OS putting USB device to suspend.
Of you are under Windows go to setting - Power - Change Plan and then click on Change Advanced Power Settings.

Check Wireless Adapter (if the Plex Server is using WiFi to network) Set it to Max Perform
Check USB and disable Suspend.

If those don’t help I can’t figure out what it is unless it is a bad Router setting.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem, many version of plex server same result. CC, router and Pc (W10) are in the same room.
I tried every setting (transcoder, wifi canal, sound, quality…EVERYTHING)

same problem- when I cast from my android phone, it stops casting after ~2 minutes, but if I cast from a chrome screen on a PC it works fine. Error cropped up recently, but I am not a heavy chromecast user, so not sure how far back it might go.

I know this is an old thread but I am having the exact same problem with evry chromecast at home, plex stops playing after aprox. 3 minutes. My plex server is my nvidia shield. I would appreciate any idea as this makes playing a movie impossible.

Same for me. iPad with synced content on same wifi network as Chromecast (no Plex Media Server on network). Media stops playing after around 5 mins. Have tried different content with same result in all cases.

Also having the same problem, iPad playing synced content in ‘offline’ mode to Chromecast on the same network stops after a few minutes (expired buffer) and crashes the iOS App (and any other iOS App running).

Very frustrating. Any solutions or insights to this?

Same device set up with a different App (Watch AFL) works perfectly.

I*m struggling with this as well. It casts for a couple of minutes, then the chromecast says something went wrong, and then it goes back to the normal screen, and I can start casting for another couple of minutes. It doesn’t happen to every movie, and it never happens to tv shows.
I have had issues with casting 4K and TrueHD audio content, so I’ve had to transcode it before watching it, but this content has
VIDEO 1080p (H.264)
AUDIOnEnglish (DTS 5.1)

A movie that it did work on had this
VIDEO 1080p (H.264)
AUDIO English (DTS-HD MA 5.1)

Because of these issues, I also have EMBY running as a backup, and it works fine with the same movie.
