I’ve had 2 smart TVs over the last 5 years.
One Samsung and currently LG.
Both consistently ran out of memory (the Samsung at least let me see that the Plex app is a memory hog - using WAY more memory than Emby - and that’s just on the load screen).
The result is that my current cheap LG runs out of memory within about 5 mins and crashes (HD direct stream).
I’m about to buy a TV for the bedroom, and before I do so I’d love to know what the app memory requirements are on the different brands BEFORE I buy, so that I can actually get a TV capable of dealing with the hoggish nature of Plex!
I’ve hunted the topics, but can’t find anything specifying memory requirements anywhere.
I’m hoping someone here can point me in the right direction….
This is really only an issue if you have traditional TV services or other external devices you use with the TV. Otherwise you just leave the TV set to the input for the Fire Stick. You can turn the TV off and on and change volume with the Fire Stick remote, essentially making the original TV remote uneeded (plz don’t throw it out or lose it. though).
If the TV slips off the correct input for whatever reason, normally you can change the TV back by hitting the Home button several times (you’ll see the light in the corner of the remote start blinking blue) and the device will change the TV input over to the correct input through HDMI-CEC or IR signal.
Btw, you’re saying the Plex app is “running out of memory” but not sure if you mean actual memory or you mean the storage space. I know the cache storage needed for the Plex app can get pretty high, and if this is a concern I would opt for the Fire Stick 4K Max (which has double the storage of the normal one), or maybe that new onn box if you’d rather do GoogleTV instead of the more ad-heavy Amazon FireOS interface.
