Hi, i was wondering if there was a quick method of doing the following, with plex reusing the existing series data instead of rescanning.
Plex Server Version 1.9.0.4252
I have 4 TV libraries on my plex server, all located on local drives and i’d like to merge them into a single library without plex doing a full rescan.
TV Shows - 179 Series
TV Retro - 93 Series
TV Other - 51 Series
TV Reality - 99 Series
I had separated them initially because early versions of the plex client for amazon fire tv sticks would take forever to load the series list but it seems to do a much better job now and it would be so nice to have them all together so i don’t have to remember where i decided to stick a certain series.
I tried to add one of the smaller folders from TV Other to TV Shows and it added the shows but it did it with a full scan of the series, downloading the meta data, etc… i was hoping there was a trick to get it to use all the existing data and just move/associate it with the new library.
I suspect there probably isn’t a magical way to merge them without plex needing to basically readd everything into the main tv library, but thought i’d ask, just in case =]

Thanks for the quick reply OttoKerner, i didn’t think there would be. There probably isn’t much need for there to be such a feature. No worries, it’s pretty quick to readd everything, thankfully for my shows plex does an awesome job figuring everything out on its own and i don’t really need to do anything but point it to the right folders and wait =]
What about if you keep the same folders
TV Shows - 179 Series
TV Retro - 93 Series
TV Other - 51 Series
TV Reality - 99 Series
but just change TV shows to point to the 4 folders.
I had Tv pointing at TV old and TV (2 folders)
And I had Other TV pointing to other TV
I moved my TV old and Tv in to 2 new folder TV A-K and TV L-Z
So now TV point to a-k and l-k instead of TV and Tv old
I may be wrong but_ as_ I don’t remember a noticeable rescan it couldn’t have been that inconvenient !
@spikemixture that’s actually exactly what i did, but it did end up rescanning everything. i kept all 4 of the libraries initially. kept them all pointing to their existing folders. and added, for example, d:\retro tv, to the TV Shows library. it scanned that folder, which makes sense of course but then went out and redownloaded metadata for all those shows. it’s fine it didn’t take all that long, it was a couple hours and it finished. i think i ended up with maybe a half dozen series that i had to go in and correct the match on and that was it. once i got everything looking good, i removed the other 3 libraries.
oh and the best news… over 400 tv series load up just fine on all my clients! =]
