Meta data / playlist / scanner issues

Have a multiple directories with thousands of files. I’ve built playlists organizing these files - most being personal clips, all are one of these three formats *.mp4, *.mov, *.wmv. Recently the scanner stopped picking up all new files in the directories as I added them. it will add some and ignore others.

These aren’t TV series or anything structured. These are various family and business clips I’ve collected. i have multiple directories on a multiple disk drives for which i’ve created libraries. And then i’ve created playlists across these libraries to categorize them.

when a file wouldn’t be added, I tried to debug - i renamed the missed file, adding text before or after the main file name. sometimes the scanner will then find the file, sometimes it still doesn’t. If it does finally pick up the renamed file - if i try to then add this file to a playlist - the library goes sideways - it renames multiple OTHER files to the name of the file I was trying to add, while still not updating the playlist with the renamed file.

If I examine those corrupted file’s meta data - the scanner has changed the playlist title to the new file name, but thankfully the “FILE” reference in the metadata was correct, so I could manually change the playlist (and library) files back to their original file names.

Something is really really wrong. since i have these playlists that took years to create, i’m not eager to have to rebuild the whole library, but clearly there’s a bug and some sort of memory overwrite/pointer issue somewhere in the database/playlist logic.

thoughts?
