Meta’s Quest 3 and new VR devices plex app compatibility

Hey everyone! I’m currently considering the quest 3 as my first vr device. (Not yet set on it, but you know, reading about it).

While looking through plex own website, I assumed that there was an app for this:
https://www.plex.tv/your-media/virtual-reality/

But alas, it seems this is not the case as these appear to be old apps for old devices that are no longe available:

Checking online it seems like most people are simply passing their browser through… which is fine I guess but so much potential is lost.

Is it not possible to port the oculus go apps to the new meta devices and from there continue updating them?

It just sounds like a great idea lost in limbo…
If anyone tried the oculus go app, what was it like?

Let me put my name out there for dearly wanting a native Plex client for the Meta Quest. This would especially be useful for watching 3D content that I already have in my Plex library.

Thanks for considering this. It would be awsome!

All I want is a Plex app for my Quest 3. Currently using the DLNA solution which works okayish.

Likewise but it only works locally, and if you have any advanced codecs in your media you may lose sound. I found a temporary fix on Reddit but after any updates you lose it

i just started using the quest 3, and got skybox installed which works great, it’s like having a humungous movie screen in front of you (you can choose different environments to watch in e.g. a large cinema, the moon etc).
Skybox can see the plex media files when you have plex media server running, BUT! you have to browse through a folder system like you’re using a windows file browser, so select “movies/recently added/” folder to view the new movies etc. This works fine, but it would be soooo much better to have a native PLEX app that looks like the PLEX. media library we’re used to.

See my reply above, I also use skybox VR  you also lose tracking so you don’t know what has been watched or not… :frowning:

That is using Plex’s built in DLNA server so does not work remotely ;(

I’d love to have a Plex client similar to Bigscreen, where you can watch with friends, no matter where you are.

Put me down for a proper Plex VR app too!

I would definitely consider a Quest 3 if it had Plex for sure. Of all the VR sets is the one I would get.

Well don’t let that stop you, go for it. I use plex on my quest 3 every day. 3d movies are now, finally, a treat. The only this is, I either use the browser or on the the various DLNA apps (big screen, skybox VR).

It’s just a big ass cinema screen, but it’s glorious.

Haha, I’d really like to have this App in quest 3, it will be awesome.

Althoght I’d like to watch movies or tv series when I’m lying down.

I use skybox player before, I only can watch medias by sitting.

Stumbled onto this yesterday, Movie Deck is a Plex client for Meta Quest, bit of an odd interface, but seems to work pretty well (though I could not figure out how to make search work).

Thank you, it works quite well.
The search is broken for me as well and the wishlist shows only half my content but overall it works good enough to be usable.
At least it played content that I couldn’t play through the browser.

Meta’s App Lab his this in developement

Wish there was official app tho, similar to what we had in Oculus Go

Exactly what we are asking!

Another vote for a native Plex app here.

I’m also considering the Quest 3 and slightly bummed to learn there isn’t one. But relieved to hear there is something that works for the time being.

EDIT: (typo) And I bought a Q3. :sunglasses: But disappointed to learn the Plex devs have no interest in developing an app. :frowning:

Been using this lately with good results
