Metadata does not update for specific movies

I sometimes like to sort my movie library by audience ratings (I use Rotten Tomatoes), so I decided to update the metadata for my movie library. I expected the most changes to be in movies with a 100% audience ratings and noticed that Beauty and the Beast (2017) didn’t change from 100%. When I checked Rotten Tomatoes, the current audience rating is 80%. I selected only that movie and selected “Update Metadata”, and the rating remained at 100%. I moved the movie out of my library file, emptied the trash and cleaned the bundles. I then closed Plex, moved the movie back into my Movies library, open Plex and scanned the movie library. The movie imported into the library, but again, at a 100% Rotten Tomatoes audience rating.

Most of the movies updated when I refreshed the metadata for the library. Does anyone know why this single movie might not be updating?

If the title is in a mp4 container, check the embedded metadata or change / Multiplex the container to a mkv which PLEX does not read.

The movie has a 100% RT rating at watch.plex.tv: https://watch.plex.tv/movie/beauty-and-the-beast-2017. You can expect your server to show the same rating (I see the same on my server).

I’m not sure how often Plex updates information from RT.

I’ve asked Plex for additional information. Given the holidays, and many people are off until after New Year’s, it may be awhile before we hear anything.

Regarding metadata updates…

Plex retrieves metadata from multiple sources, aggregates it, and stores it on their servers.

When your server retrieves/updates metadata, it queries the servers at Plex, not the servers at RT, IMDB, TMDB, etc.

Updates at TMDB/TVDB usually take 48 - 72 hours to propagate to Plex. I’m not sure the update interval for RT ratings.

What you see on your server should generally match what is listed at watch.plex.tv.

Since watch.plex.tv shows RT rating of 100% for Beauty and the Beast (2017), you can expect that your server will show the same.

I converted it to MKV with the same result. :frowning:

Thank you for the explanation! It sounds like the issue isn’t on my end, which satisfies my curiosity. Also, thanks for the tip about watch.plex.tv. I didn’t even know that was a thing. It sounds like whomever runs that server hasn’t updated their metadata lately (though I don’t really know how that works). Thanks again for the information!
