Metadata for TV Show Specials That Are In thetvdb.com

Plex does not pick up the metadata for TV show specials that are in thetvdb.com. This is true whether you use their suggested naming convention for specials (e.g. s00e02…) or inside the actual season (e.g. s02e09…).

Downton Abbey is a perfect example…
Season 2 comes with a Christmas Special. It’s flagged correctly in thetvdb.com as being both in season 0 as episode 2 and in season 2 as episode 9 (https://www.thetvdb.com/series/downton-abbey/episodes/4220355). However, Plex will not match up the episode and retrieve metadata regardless of how the file is named…
s00e02 - Christmas at Downton Abbey.mkv
s02e09 - Christmas at Downton Abbey.mkv

All other episodes for dozens of shows work fine for me. It’s definitely a bug in Plex that should be easy to fix.

This always works naturally and instantly (with or without the (2010):

Might want to try that - and a Plex Dance for the show:

All Steps
In Order
or it won’t work

Thank you. It’s working now. I’ll have to remember the Plex Dance. Before my original post, I renamed the file from s02e09… to s00e02… and Plex correctly put it in the “Specials” folder but didn’t retrieve the episode’s metadata. I had even tried refreshing metadata a few times. About 30 seconds after doing the Plex Dance it worked.

Thanks for the suggestion. I worked after doing the Plex Dance suggested by JuiceWSA so I didn’t have to review the article you suggested.
