Metadata Incorrect and/or Missing for Anime Series

I recently added the Anime series Elemental Gelade (Erementar Gerad) to my server but found that the series title was not properly capitalized (displayed as ‘Elemental gelade’), the content rating displayed as TV-PG instead of TV-14 (library certification country is set to United States), and the episode information was not loaded. I ran a ‘Fix Match’ to confirm that the series was properly matched and also ran ‘Refresh Metadata’, but it made no difference.

All of the metadata fields were unlocked until I locked them to save the manually entered info. The library for my Anime series is a TV Show library with the new Plex TV Series agent being used. All library settings are defaults.

Episode naming uses the following format: ‘Series Title_S01E01_Epsisode Title.mp4’ and this format has worked fine for dozens of TV Shows, Movies, and Anime Series that I already have in my libraries.

I am adding my server logs for Plex Media Scanner Analysis and for Plex Media Server Matcher from the first episode only, since the process is the same for all episodes.

Does anyone know which websites are being used for TV Series metadata? I’m seeing from Plex that they say it’s pulled from multiple sites, so this seems ambiguous and difficult to identify for making corrections. I’m all for upgrades, but I am also happy to make community improvements in situations like this, so please let me know what I can do to help!

I suspect the problem is that on TMDB the external ID link to TVDB for the show was incorrectly. I have fixed this at https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/34711-elemental-gelade/changes. Give it 24/48 hours for plex to pickup this change and then force refresh the show.

BTW… How accurate is the english episode titles and summaries for the show on https://thetvdb.com/series/elemental-gelade. The look better than what is at TMDB so I might go and update them if you can let me know they are accurate.

The titles and summaries are mostly accurate. I stumbled across an entirely missing summary for Elemental Gelade episode 22, but the title was correct. In this case, THEMOVIEDB had all of the summaries and titles, but the content rating was not matching what is listed on THETVDB, Crunchyroll, and MYANIMELIST.

These are all community driven, and I try to fix this stuff when I stumble across errors, so they have been updated to correct the errors I mentioned above.

I think some of these ratings differ depending on whether or not the show was aired live. TV broadcast versions have to be milder than versions released on disc, so that’s another issue entirely. If there was a way to run a mass change of content rating to account for different versions of movies and TV shows it would be easier than having to change each episode, but I’ve seen this requested elsewhere in the forums.

The translations on some other series are slightly different, but they are usually close, so my guess is someone could be using a translator to convert for other languages.

Thanks. I have gone and added external ids for all 26 episodes on TMDB with links to both IMDB and to TVDB. Plex uses a consolidated metadata approach now so having these linked like this should provide the best data when it gets to plex.

I have also adjusted the titles for the episodes on TMDB as they did not appear to be good translations based on what was on TVDB and other online sources.

Give it 24/48 hours for the plex back-end cache to pickup these changes and you should see an improvement on your end for the show in plex. Any other problems just let us know and we can take a look.
